Certificate in case of Marriage. I hereby certify that on the 11th day of September 1862 W. H. Franks of Caldwell County, Kentucky, 21 years old, born in Caldwell County, Kentucky, single, was married to Sarah Holeman, of same county and state, aged 18 years, born in Caldwell County, Kentucky and then single, by Joseph Board. Invalid Pension Application
State of Kentucky, County of Crittenden:

On the 15th day of September 1866 personally appeared before me, Clerk of the County Court, a Court of Record within and for the County and State aforesaid, William H. Franks, aged 23 years, a resident of the County of Caldwell in the State of Kentucky who, being duly sworn according to law, declared that he is the identical William H. Franks who volunteered in the service of the United States at Smithland in the State of Kentucky on or about the 13th day of October in the year 1861, as a Private in Company E commanded by R. F. Haines in the 20th Regiment of Kentucky Infantry Volunteers commanded by Col. Sanders D. Bruce in the war of 1861, and was honorably discharged at Paducah in the State of Kentucky on or about the 16th day of June in the year 1862, that wile in the service aforesaid, and in the line of his duty that about the 9th of April 1862 just after the battle of Shiloh in the State of Tennessee being exposed to so much rain and wet cold rains he was seized with rheumatism and from that the fever and then it appeared to spread over him until is destroyed his health generally and up to this period he still continues in bad health with rheumatism and weakness about his chest.

That since leaving the service, this applicant has resided in the County of Caldwell in the State of Kentucky and his occupation has been a farmer in a limited way as his physical condition would allow. That prior to his entry into the service above named, he was a man of good sound physical health, being when enrolled a farmer and earning his subsistence by his said occupation. That his habits have always been uniformly good and temperate. That he is one-half disable from obtaining his subsistence from manual labor in consequence of his above named injuries received in the service of the United States. He make this Declaration for the purpose of being place on the Invalid Pension Roll of the United States, by reason of the disabilities above stated, and revoking and countermanding all other authority that may have been given, he hereby constitutes and appoints with full power of substitution and revocation, J. H. H. Woodward of the City of Louisville in the State of Kentucky his true and lawful attorney irrevocable, to prosecute his claim and obtain the Pension Certificate that may be issued. That his Post Office is at Princeton in the County of Caldwell in the State of Kentucky. That his domicile or place of abode is on wagon road leaking from Wilsons Warehouse to Princeton about 7 miles from Princeton in the county seat Caldwell County. Applicant: Wm. H. (X) Franks.

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt from your office of application for Pension #123813 and to return it herewith with such information as is furnished by the file of this office. It appears from the Rolls on file in this Office, that Wm. H. Franks who enrolled on the 13th day of October 1861 at Smithland, Kentucky in Company E, 20th Regiment of Kentucky Infantry Volunteers, to serve three years, or during the war, and mustered into service as a Private on the 6th day of January 1862 at Smithland, Kentucky, in Company E, 20th Regiment of Kentucky Infantry Volunteers to serve three year, or during the war. On the Muster Roll of Company E of that Regiment up to April 30, 1862, he is reported present to August 31, 1962 "absent sick" to October 31, 1962, Discharged Jun 24, 1862. J. P. Widow's Claim For Pension
State of Kentucky, County of Crittenden:

On this 20th day of December 1970, personally appeared before me, a Court of Record in and for the County and State aforesaid, Sarah Franks, a resident in the County of Caldwell and State of Kentucky, aged 26-3/4 years, who being duly sworn, makes the following declaration in order to obtain the Pension provided by the Act of Congress approved and acts additional thereto, July 14, 1862, that she is the widow of William H. Franks who was a private in Company E commanded by Captain Frank Gibson in the 20th Regiment of Volunteer Infantry in the War of 1861; that her maiden name was Sarah Holman and that she was married to said Wm. H. Franks on or about the 11th day of September 1862 in the County of Caldwell and State of Kentucky by Rev. Joseph Board and that she knows of no record evidence of said marriage except such as or copies of which accompanies this declaration. She further declares that said William H. Franks her husband died at Caldwell County in the State of Kentucky on or about the 18th day of August 1869 by having been killed by accident and not of wound received or disease contracted in the line of duty. She also declares that she has remained a widow ever since the death of said Wm. H. Franks and that she has not in any manner been engaged in or aided or abetted, the rebellion in the United States; and she hereby appoints C. W. Bennett of Washington, D. C. her lawful Attorney, with power of substitution, and authorizes to present and prosecute this claim, and to receive her pension certificates. That as the time of the death of her said husband he was an applicant of an invalid pension, Claim #123.813 and she applies for the pension to which he would have been entitled from date of discharge to date of his death as above. Also personally appeared before me, D. E. Sigler and Wm. A. Sigler residents of Caldwell County, and State of Kentucky to me well known as credible persons, who being duly sworn, declare, that they were present and saw said Sarah Franks sign her name to the foregoing declaration, and that they have every reason to believe, from the appearance of said applicant, and their acquaintance with her, that she is the identical person she represents herself to be, and know that said deceased recognized said applicant as his lawful wife.
