Thomas H. Graves

Thomas H. Graves stated in June 1855 that he was 62 years of age. The veteran added the initial H. to his signature when he was 21 years of age. His parents names are not mentioned, however, in 1832 the veteran's father was living in Woodford County, Kentucky.

The veteran's first wife was Gabriella Dollman/Dolman, who died in 1834. His second wife was Eliza W., widow of Thomas H. Gibbons/Gibbens/Gibens. Her maiden name is not mentioned. She and the veteran were married November 9 or 15, 1840 in Georgetown, Scott County, Kentucky. She stated that she had three children when the veteran died; the youngest 5 years of age. No names are mentioned. There is no reference to children of the first marriage. In 1878 Mrs. R. H. Huzza of Atlanta, Georgia stated she was the daughter of Eliza W. Graves, the veteran's widow, but she did not state whether she was the daughter of Thomas H. Graves or Thomas H. Gibbons. In May 1872 the veteran's widow was 72 years of age.

Thomas H. Graves stated that he enlisted in Georgetown, Kentucky. He was living there in 1832. In 1860 he was living in Hamilton County, Ohio, and in 1855 he was living in Cincinnati, Ohio. He died January 5, 1856 in Cincinnati, Ohio.

A report from the Third Auditor's Office, Treasury Department, shows that "Thomas Graves" served under Captain West from August 15, 1812 to March 4, 1813. When the veteran applied for pension it was stated that he served as Private under Captains Lynn West and Collyer/Collier in the Kentucky Militia. It was likewise stated that he was wounded in the battle of River Raisin.

Thomas H. Graves was pensioned on Certificate 1659, which was issued under the Act of April 24, 1816. Pension was paid at the Ohio Agency. Eliza W. Graves, widow of Thomas H. Graves, was pensioned on Certificate 22858, which was issued under the Act of March 9, 1878. Pension was paid at the St. Louis, Missouri Agency.

Warrant #419 for eighty acres of bounty land was issued under the Act of September 18, 1850 to Thomas H. Graves. Warrant #31551 for eighty acres of bound land was issued under the Act of March 3, 1855 to Eliza W. Graves, widow of Thomas H. Graves. Warrants were issued because of his War of 1812 service.
