Thomas Graves was born October 1763 in Louisa County, Virginia. The names of his parents are not given. The veteran married Marley P. Walthall on October 19, 1842 in Cumberland County, Kentucky. The date and place of her birth and the names of her parents are not given. In 1855 she was about 57 years of age. In May 1853 she was living in Cumberland County, Kentucky. No reference is made to any children.
At enlistment, he was a resident of Louisa County, Virginia. In October 1873 he moved to Kentucky, settled within eight miles of Lexington, Kentucky where he lived for eighteen years. He then moved to Cumberland County, Kentucky. In 1832 he was living in Russell County, Kentucky.
When the veteran applied for pension, he stated that he enlisted in 1780 and served at various times during the Revolutionary War, amounting to more than nine months as Private with the Virginia Troops under Captains John Phillips, Charles Yancey and Bruce. He also stated that he was at the siege of Yorktown.
Warrant 26898 for 160 acres of bounty land was issued under the Act of March 3, 1855 on account of the Revolutionary War Service of Thomas Graves.
Thomas Graves was pensioned on Certificate 19235, which was issued under the Act of June 7, 1832. The pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency. Marley P. Graves, widow of Thomas Graves, was pensioned on Certificate 2372, which was issued under the Act of February 3, 1853. The pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency.
