Preston Hampton enlisted in Loudoun County, Virginia at the beginning of the Revolution and served as private in Captain Cox's Company, Colonel Russell's Virginia Regiment, and also as Captain in Colonel Lewis' Virginia Regiment later in the War. He married in August 1779 in Loudoun County, Virginia, Eliza, maiden name not stated, who was born June 20, 1754. He died July 10, 1832. She applied for pension April 19, 1839, while residing in Grant County, Kentucky, but her claim was not allowed as she failed to furnish proof of six month services as required by the pension laws.
They had the following children: Elizabeth born May 31, 1780, Edward born June 17, 1782, Nancy born August 12, 1784, Polly born March 12, 1786, and James born June 17, 1788. In 1855 Mrs. Mary Spencer was referred to as a daughter.
