31. In the name of God Amen, being in a low state of health, but of sound mind and calling to mind the uncertainty of life and certainty of death do make this my last will and testament in form and manner following to wit, I commend my soul to God and my body to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my executor hereafter to be named. Item the first, I give and bequeath unto my daughter Sarah Clark four head of cattle to wit two cows and calves now claimed by her the said Sarah, also a mare and colt and saddle now claimed by said Sarah Clark, also her feather bed bedstead and bedding. Also I give and bequeath unto the said Sarah Clark my Negro child called Arek?. Also, I give and bequeath unto my son, Thomas Clark, a mare and saddle and four head of cattle now called his and feather bed bedstead and bedding. Also, I give and bequeath to Thomas Clark my Negro boy Frederick, the remaining part of my estate, after paying all my just debts to be equally divided amongst all my children, namely, Elizabeth How, Hannah Myers, John Clark, Sarah Clark and Thomas Clark. I furthermore do constitute ordain and appoint my true and trusty friend, Alexander McPherson my lawful executor. As witness my hand and seal this tenth day of January in the year of our Lord God one thousand eight hundred and fourteen. Sarah (X) Hampton.
