William
Herrin - Page 244.
In the name
of God, Amen! I, William Herrin of the County of Grant and State of
Kentucky being old and in feeble health, but sound in mind and disposing
memory, make this my last will and testament. My desire is that I give my
soul to God that gave it and my body be decently buried and all my just debts
and funeral expenses paid.
I give and bequeath to my nine brothers and sisters, which is to say: One dollar to each George Herrin, Ezriah Herrin, Betsey Bailey, Nancy Gray, Sally Lafflin heirs Susan Doan heirs Rebecca Roberts heirs Massa McClure heirs Peggy Courtney. (no punctuation among these names, thus it is difficult to determine whether the word "heirs" goes with the following or preceding name.)
Secondly, my will and desire is that I give and bequeath to my beloved wife, Catharine, all my property, real and personal, with cash notes or money on hand, except the above named legacies to my brothers and sisters.
My will and desire for my wife, Catharine, to sell and convey the land whereon I now live and do with other property as she may think best.
My will and desire is that my executors or executrix causes to be erected head and foot stones of marble well engraved at my head and foot and the same for my son, Arlimetus?, which has been several years dead. Also the same to my wife Catherine and that all these be laid side by side.
My will and desire is that my wife Catherine be my executrix and Thomas T. Thompson my executor to carry the will into effect without giving security. Given under my hand and seal the 10th of June 1857. William (X) Herrin. In presence of Thomas (X) Oder, Lewis Baily.
Codicil when all the above is complied with if any money be left my will and desire is that Thomas T. Thompson have the balance or his heirs. William (X) Herrin.
State of
Kentucky, Grant County Court September Term 1858.
I. E. H.

Herrin was returned to court at the term above stated and proved by the oaths

of September 1858. E. H. Smith Clerk.
