Leonard Highfield's parents are not mentioned. His date of birth and place are not given. It was stated that the veteran was known by both the surnames of Highfill and Highfield.

The veteran married Elizabeth Ammerman/Hammerman in Pendleton County, Kentucky. It appears from a copy of the court records in this county that the maiden name of Elizabeth was Ammerman and that her father was John Ammerman. It likewise appears among said record that the marriage of Elizabeth to the veteran took place on November 17, 1822, although the date is also given in the file as sometime in December 1822. It is stated that at the veteran's death he left a widow, Elizabeth, and several children, their names and ages not shown. In 1850, Elizabeth Highfill, widow of the veteran, was residing in Pendleton County, Kentucky, at which time she stated that she was about 50 years of age. She was still living there in 1855 at which time she stated that she was 59 years of age. No reason is given for the discrepancies in the widow's age. One Lorenzo Highfield was residing in Pendleton County, Kentucky in 1855, but his relationship to the veteran was not indicated.

The veteran enlisted at Falmouth, Kentucky. At the time of the veteran's marriage he was of Pendleton County, Kentucky, and was still residing there at the time of his death, October 6, 1845 .

A report from the Third Auditor's Office, Treasury Department, shows that Leonard Highfill served from March 29 to May 28, 1813. When Elizabeth Highfill, widow of the veteran, applied for bounty land, it was stated that Leonard Highfill enlisted about March 10, 1813, and served until about September 18, 183, as Private in the company of Captain William Sebre/Seaberry/Seabury, in the 10th Regiment of Kentucky Militia commanded by Colonel William Boswell. It was likewise stated that the veteran was wounded in the thigh in the battle of Fort Meigs on May 5, 1813. It was also stated that he received his discharge at Camp Seneca, Ohio.

Warrant #33365 for eighty acres of bounty land was issued under the Act of September 20, 1850, on account of the service of Leonard Highfill in the War of 1812. Warrant #8345 for eighty acres of bounty land was issued under the Act of March 3, 185, on account of the service of Leonard Highfill in the War of 1812.

In 1821 the veteran was residing in Pendleton County, Kentucky, where he stated that he had lived for the past eighteen years. Previous to this he resided in Ohio. He was still living in Pendleton County, Kentucky in 1825. The place and date of his death is not shown.

In a report from the Third Auditor's Office, Treasury Department, it appears from the Muster Roll of Captain Sebree's Company of the 10th Regiment of Kentucky Militia commanded by Colonel William E. Boswell from March 29 to May 31, 1813, that Leonard Highfield enlisted on May 29, 1813 as Private and was wounded on May 5, 1813 at Fort Meigs (Ohio). The signature of the veteran's captain appears in the file as William Sebree. It was further stated in the file that Leonard Highfield was wounded in the left thigh by a musket ball while engaged in a sortie commanded by Colonel John Miller against the British.

Because of disability incurred during his service in the War of 1812, Leonard Highfield was pensioned on Certificate 649, which was issued under the Acts of April 24, 1816 and May 15, 1820. Pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency.
