The County was formed in 1820 from Pendleton County. It is located in the outer    
Bluegrass region of the state. The elevation ranges from 580 to 1000 feet above sea
level. Williamstown was established in 1820 as the newly formed county seat of
Grant County named for William Arnold who donated the land for the town.
