December 27, 1843. In the name of God Amen. I, Joshua Jones, of the County of Grant and State of Kentucky, knowing the frailty of man and the certainty of death, believing that I must soon go the way of the earth, do resign my body to its mother earth, my spirit to the Lord that gave it, do ordain and make this my last will and testament, in after words, to wit:

First. I will that my body be decently interred and that my debts be all paid out of my estate.

Secondly, I will that all my possessions both real and personal shall go to my wife Mary Jones as long as she and Mariah Jones, my daughter, shall both live, and after their death, I leave unto my daughter, Jane Hendrix one dollar and to my daughter, Rebecca Clark one fifty dollar horse, all my books to my daughter E____ Powers? heirs one dollar and to my daughter, Sarah Shafer one dollar she having been provided for.  I will that the residue of my said estate that William Jones, my son, shall have the benefit of as his own forever, and I do hereby constitute my son William Jones to carry this my last will into effect and in case of death or any other casualty that Wm. P. Thomas or John P. Thomas might carry it into effect.

In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand the day and date above written. Joshua Jones.  Attest: M. Draper, W. H. Sipple, John Riffle.

State of Kentucky Grant County Court.
This last will and testament of Joshua Jones, dec'd, was produced in court on the 8th day of January 1844 and proven by the oaths of Martin Draper and John Riffle subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded which is accordingly done. Attest: Wm. Smith, Clerk.
