Joshua Jones

Joshua Jones was born April 25, 1761. At the time of his enlistment he was a resident of Northumberland County, Virginia. When he applied for pension he stated that he enlisted "about the time Lord Dumore sailed up the Potomac in the year 17__, to Saint George's Island" and served until the close of the war, amounting to about 3 years, with the Virginia Troops under Captain Abraham Beauchamp and Colonel Thomas Jones. It is stated elsewhere in the file that he served as Private.

His parents are not mentioned. He married Mary (maiden not not given) in April 1791 in Frederick County, Virginia. She was born in February 1767. In 1840 he was residing in Grant County, Kentucky. He died January 6, 1844. In 1845, his widow was residing in Grant County, where she died August 10, 1847. The following information is given concerning the children of Joshua and Mary Jones: Elizabeth born February 5, 1792, Sarah born July 11, 1795, William W. born July 23, 1797, Mary born December 13, 1799, and Mariah born February 10, 1807. In 1855 William W. Jones was the only surviving child. He was then residing in Grant County, Kentucky. The following names are also shown: Jane Jones born October 22, 1786, and Rebecca Jones, born August 16, 1788.  Joshua died January 6, 1844. His widow died August 10, 1847.
