John Q. Lawless was born in Grant County, Kentucky, December 1, 1826. He is the second son of John and Margaret Lawless, old settlers of Adams county. Coming here at an early age with his parents, he was educated in the common schools of this county. Until the age of twenty-one his time was alternately spent at school and on his father's farm. He was married to Miss Elizabeth, daughter of David and Elizabeth Pearce. She was born in Baltimore County, Maryland, September 2, 1834. He is now residing with is family on section 23, Gilmer township. As a stock grower and farmer his efforts have been attended with success. They have had born to them four children; three yet living. Mr. Lawless and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal church at Mt. Pleasant. In politics he is a Republican. He is among the most prominent gentlemen of Gilmer.
