In the name of God Amen. I, William Mountjoy of Pendleton County and State of Kentucky being weak of body but of sound mind and memory and knowing that is is appointed of God for all man once to die, do hereby make and pronounce this as my last will and testament, after recommending my soul to God who give it hoping that he will dispose of it as best suits his mercy. Touching my worldly goods, it is my will that they be disposed of as follows, to wit, first, I give unto my wife, Phebe Mountjoy all the interest in and to the lands I have an interest in, also lots in the town of Falmouth and three lots in the little town at the mouth of Beaver, also all my horses, cattle, hogs, farming utensils, household furniture.

Secondly I give to my black woman Violet her freedom and liberty after serving my wife Phebe until the end of the present year, but should the said Violet have any increase before her freedom, they are to be free, the males at twenty one years of age and the females at seventeen years of age.

I also give unto my wife Phebe the following slaves, to wit, Gilbert, Nelson, Harriett, John and Minney in the following manner, Gilbert is to serve her until the year 1828, Nelson until the year 1828, John until the year 1830, and Minney until the year 1825. Should said Harriett or Minney have my increase during their slavery, the males are to serve until they are twenty one years of age and the females until they are sixteen years of age at which time or times they are all to be free.

If the debts that are due me are not sufficient to pay what I owe my wife together with the executors or administrators who may serve are authorized to sell any of the slaves to pay the debts, so they are not sold for a larger term of slavery than heretofore named in this my will, but at the death of my wife, Phebe, said slaves are all to be free.

I do hereby appoint my wife Phebe Mountjoy executor, together with John Mountjoy, Martin Marshall and Will C. Kennett, executors to this my last will and testament. In witness whereof I here unto set my hand and affix my seal this 14th day of January A.D. 1819.  Wm. This last will and testament of William Mountjoy, deceased, was this day produced in open court and proved by the oaths of Jeremiah Monroe and Press G. Kinnett, two of the subscribing witnesses there and ordered to be recorded, which is duely and truly done. Attest: Hubbard B. Smith, CGCC.
