Jacob New was born July 13, 1761 in Berkley County,
Virginia. The names of his parents are not given. While a resident of Hampshire
County, Virginia, he enlisted in 1779 and served two months as private in
Captain Aaron Mercer's Virginia Company. He enlisted in 1781 and served two
months as private in Captain Daniel Tevebaugh's Company, Colonel Benjamin
Wilson's Virginia Regiment. He lived for a time in Vincennes, Indiana. He
was allowed pension on his application January 13, 1834, at which time he
resided on Crooked Creek, Grant County, Kentucky. He married October 19,
1784 or 1788 in Hampshire County, Virginia, Mary Coon, who was born August
10, 1784, place, and the names of her parents are not given. Jacob New's
widow, Mary New, was living in Grant County, Kentucky, with her son, James
New, in 1842. She was allowed pension on her application executed July 12,
1847 in Grant County, Kentucky. Jacob New died in Grant County on September
7, 1839. Mary New died January 13, 1848.
