In the name of God Amen. I, Samuel Rich Sr. of the County of Grant being
sick and weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory, for which I
thank God, and calling to mind the uncertainty of human life and being desirous
to dispose of all such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to bless me
with, I give and bequeath the same in manner following, that is to
say,
After the payment of my debts and funeral expenses, I give my wife, Lue?, all my estate both real and personal for and during her natural lifetime, to be managed during said time as she and my son, William J. Rich, may think proper, and after her decease, I give the same to my children herein after mentioned equally to be divided among them and to be enjoyed by them forever.
I give to my daughter, Isabella, one hundred dollars to be paid upon the division of the Blacks as follows, Thomas, Henry, John, Mary, Francis and Amanda be freed at the age of 30 years, should they conduct themselves in a proper manner and should my administrators so decide.
I desire and give my Black ____ Sarah and her youngest child, Lou? Ann to my wife , Lue?, to dispose of them as she may think proper. I desire that my Black girl, Maria, be provided for during her afflictment? by my administrators, and should she recover to be disposed of as the other ___ above mentioned.
And lastly, I do hereby constitute and appoint my son, William J. Rich and Lue?, my wife, administrator and administration of this my last will and testament, hereby revoking all other or former wills or testaments by me heretofore made. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed by seal this 20th day of June 1846. Samuel Rich. 1846.
I, Wm. Smith, Clerk of the county court for said county certify that
this last will and testament of Samuel Rich was produced to court at the
term above stated and was proven by the oaths of J. A. Taylor and Jonathan
Martin, subscribing witnesses, thereto to be the act and deed of the said
Samuel Rich and thereupon the said will was ordered to be recorded, whereupon
said is duly admitted to record in my office this 3rd day of December 1846.
