Jesse Rose

He made his hom with a son in later years in Grant County


On this 13th day of July 1818 before me me undersigned one of this circuit judge for the Commonwealth aforesaid personally appeared Jesse Rose, aged about 68 years, resident in Harrison County in said state who being by one first duly sworn according to law doth make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by "the act of Congress entitled an act to provide certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War" that he enlisted in the State of Virginia in the company commanded by Captain Shelton in the year 1777 or thereabouts, that he was afterward transferred to Captain Payton'e Company and continued to serve in that company as a private soldier until the expiration of the term for which he enlisted which was three years. That Captain Shelton's Company and Captain Payton's Company belonged to the third Virginia Regiment until a short time after the Battle of Germantown, when they transferred to the second Virginia Regiment, that both the 2nd and 3rd Virginia Regiments belonged to the Virginia line on the Continental establishment. That he was at the Battle at Monmouth and several small skirmishes. That from his reduced circumstances in life he stands in need of assistance from his country for support. He was allowed pension on his application executed July 13, 1818 while a resident of Harrison County, Kentucky, aged about 68 years. He died in 1830.
