In
the name of God, Amen! I, Charles Sechrest of Grant County and State of Kentucky,
being of sound mind and feeling desirous that my real and personal estate,
after my decease, shall be disposed of, in accordance with my wishes, do
make and order this to be my last will and testament, hereby revoking any
and every will previously by me made. That is to say:
Item first. I wish my wife to pay all my just debts and funeral expenses out of any money I may leave on hand.
Item second. I give and bequeath unto my beloved wife, Mary, the farm wherein I now reside during her life, which at her death to go to my son, George C. Sechrest, according to a deed this day made conveying to him said home place. I also give unto my wife Mary all my Negroes and their increase, and herein after disposed of and also all my ready money and money due at my death except such sums herein after specifically set apart to my children and grandchildren named likewise. I give unto her all my horses, cattle, sheep, hogs, salted beef and pork, poultry, grain, hay and other provisions?, together with any vehicle and farming utensils and all of which property, except the farm, she is to have in her own absolute right to do with by sale, gift or otherwise use as she may think proper in her life time and to dispense of as she pleases at her death. After my decease I give and bequeath unto my children and grandchildren herein after named, the following property:
Item Third. Unto my daughter Catherine Sechrest, wife of Charles Sechrest, I give and bequeath the sum of $400 in cash.
Item Fourth. I give and bequeath unto my daughter Maria Fugate, wife of Benjamin F. Fugate, in addition to the tract of land lying in Pendleton County, which I have conveyed to her by deed, $5 in cash.
Item Fifth. Unto my daughter Charlotte Edwards, wife of R. A. Edwards, I give $500 in cash.
Item Sixth. Unto my daughter Louisa Lyons, wife of J. R. Lyons, I give and bequeath in addition to the tract of land I have conveyed to her by deed, $5 in cash.
Item Seventh. Unto my son James R. Sechrest, I give and bequeath in addition to the tract of land I have conveyed to him by deed $5 in cash.
Item Eighth. Unto my daughter America Norman, wife of William Norman, I give and bequeath in addition to eleven hundred dollars I have hereinafter given her, $5 dollars in cash.
Item Ninth. Unto my daughter Hannah Jane Lyons, wife of John Lyons, I give and bequeath in addition to the tact of land I have conveyed to her by dead $5 in cash.
Item Tenth. Unto my son Francis M. Sechrest, I give and bequeath in addition to the tract of land I have conveyed to him by deed, one Negro girl named Laney.
Item Eleventh. Unto my son Robert F. Sechrest I give and bequeath in addition to the tract of land I have conveyed to him by deed, one Negro girl named Belinda.
Item Twelfth. Unto my daughter Miriam Frances Sechrest I give and bequeath in addition to the tract of land in Lewis County, Missouri which I have conveyed to her by deed, $1000 in cash.
Item Thirteenth. Unto Eveline Sechrest my daughter I give and bequeath in addition to a tract of land lying on Eagle Creek which I have conveyed to her by deed, $1000 in cash.
Item Fourteenth. Unto my son George C. Sechrest I give and bequeath my farm whereon I now reside at my wife's death, which farm I had conveyed to him by deed granting him possession of the same at my wife's death as just stated, and I also give unto him a Negro girl named Catherine to be taken possessed of by him when he is twenty-one years of age.
Item Fifteenth. I give and bequeath unto my grandson William Petit 100 acres of land on Eagle Creek and $5 in cash.
Item Sixteenth. I give and bequeath unto my grandsons Charles Petit and Thomas Petit each $50 in cash.
Item Seventeenth. Unto Charles Sechrest, Jacob Sechrest, James Sechrest, Elizabeth Sechrest, and Nancy Sechrest, children of my son William Sechrest, deceased, I give and bequeath each $50 in cash.
Item Eighteenth. I leave my wife Mary my only and sole executrix to this my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 3rd day of November 1855. Charles (X) Sechrest. Signed in presence of Jas. J. Henderson, B. N. Carter.
State of
Kentucky Grant County Court December Term 1857.
The
foregoing will of Charles Sechrest, deceased, was produced to court at the
term above stated and after being proven by the oaths of Jas. J. Henderson,
B. N. Carter, subscribing witnesses thereto, was ordered to be recorded,
which is accordingly done this 17th day of December 1857. B. N. Carter,
