10 In the name of God Amen. I, Samuel Simpson of the County of Pendleton and State of Kentucky being very sick of body but of perfect mind and memory thanks be given unto God calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all man to die, do make and ordain this my last will and testament, that is to say principally and first of all, I give and recommend my soul unto the hand of Almighty God that gave it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my wife and children, nothing doubting but at the general resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God, and as touching such worldly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life, I give devise and dispose of the same in the following manner and form. First, I give and bequeath to Lettice my dearly beloved wife all and singular my stock of horses and cattle, sheep and hogs together with all my household goods, debts and ____ effects for the particular use of the said Lettice my wife and during her natural lifetime or widowhood, and to dispose of as she may think best in raising and schooling my children and appoint the said Lettice to pay all my just debts and to convey and make a deed to John Brumley for said land that I sold to said Brumley pay to the time appraised otherwise the said Lettice my wife to sell said land to the best advantage to any other person and make a special deed and settle with the said Brumley according to the article between said Brumley and myself and also the said Lettice my wife to buy land out of the money arising from said land and to have it deeded to her use enduring her natural lifetime or widowhood and then to be for the benefit of all my children each one to have an equal part and I appoint the said Lettice my wife to keep the property together as she thinks best and to give each child when they come of age according to her discretion not exceeding what was given to Polley Cobb and Lidia Chandler. The colt of mettle to be Edmonds, Lewis to have the roan cold now called his and Morgan to have the sorrell colt called his and I do hereby utterly disallow, revoke and ____ all and every other former testament, will, legacy, bequest and executors by me in any ways before named willed and bequeathed rectifying and confirming this and no other to be my last will and testament. In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal the 2nd day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and sixteen. Samuel Simpson.
