341 March Term 1842. In the name of God Amen, the 12th day of January one thousand eight hundred and forty-one. I, Martha Smallwood of Grant County, Kentucky being sick and weak in body but of sound and disposing mind, memory and understanding calling into mind the mortality of my body, and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die, and the uncertainty thereof and being desirous to settle my worldly affairs, and thereby be the better prepared to leave this world when it shall please God to call me, hence do therefore make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following: That is to say first and principally, I commit my soul unto the hand of Almighty God and my body to the earth, to be decently buried at the discretion of my executors, herein after named, and after my debts and funeral expenses are paid, I devise, bequeath and dispose as follows: First I give and bequeath unto my daughter, Elizabeth Smallwood or her heirs all my clothing, trunks and their contents; also one hundred dollars in money to be raised and ____ out of my estate, if the said Elizabeth is not living and has left no heir, then to revert to my son Joseph. I give and bequeath to my son Joseph Smallwood my farm whereon I now dwell containing about one hundred acres, more or less, to him the said Joseph during his natural life and from and after his decease, I give and bequeath the said farm to his children, who shall be living at the time of his death to be equally divided among them. And lastly I do hereby constitute and appoint Seth Doud and Peter Ireland to be sole executors of this my last will and testament, revoking, annulling all former last wills and testament, revoking, annulling all former wills by me heretofore made; ratifying and confirming this, and none other to be my last will and testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed by seal the day and year last mentioned above. Martha Smallwood. May Term 1842.
