The parents of John S. Taylor are not mentioned. His date and place of birth is not shown. In 1818 he was 60 years of age. The veteran married Sarah Gibson in March 1792 in Mercer County, Kentucky. After the veteran died she married Samuel Roberts on July 4, 1841 in Calloway County, Kentucky. In 1850 Sarah Roberts, former widow of John S. Taylor, stated that he only child, William Taylor, was born in 1794 or 1795. No further family data given.
At enlistment the veteran said his residence was Buckingham County, Virginia. In 1819 he was residing in Green County, Kentucky. In 1821 he was living in Mercer County, Kentucky. He died in 1825 or 1828, place not stated.
When the veteran applied for pension, he stated that he enlisted in April 1776 and served at various times during the Revolutionary War, amounting to one year and seven months as private with the Virginia Troops, under Captains Thomas Patterson and William Jones and Colonel Morgan. He also stated that he was in the Battle of Guilford and at the siege of Yorktown.
John S. Taylor was pensioned on Certificate 13438, which was issued under the Act of March 18, 1818. The pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency. Sarah Roberts, former widow of John S. Taylor, was pensioned on Certificate 5501, which was issued under the Act of February 2, 1848. The pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency.
