The parents of John Taylor not mentioned. The date and place of his birth not indicated. In 1833 the veteran stated that he was 70 years of age. The veteran referred to his wife, who was living in 1820, but he did not give her name. In 1820 the veteran stated that he lived with his children who were all over 21 years of age. The only name mentioned was that of his son, Samuel.

The residence of the veteran at enlistment is no indicated. In 1818 he was a resident of Harrison County, Virginia; in 1820 he was living in Hardy County, Virginia; and in 1833 in Boone County, Kentucky. The date of his death is not indicated.

When the veteran applied for pension he stated that he enlisted "the year of the battle of Monmouth" and served as Private with the Maryland Troops under Captain William Riley and Colonel Samuel Smith. He likewise stated that he was in the battle of Monmouth and also in the battle of Camden where he was taken prisoner and held sixteen months, then escaped and served until peace was declared. It is stated elsewhere in the file that he served from May 4, 1778 until August 16, 1780.

John Taylor was pensioned on Certificate 926, which was issued under the Act of March 18, 1818. The pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency.
