Richard Taylor was about 80 years of age in 1824. The names of his parents not mentioned. He was survived by the following heirs: daughter, Mrs. Matilda Robertson; grandchildren, Richard Taylor Robertson, Catharine Ann Robertson, Eliza M. Byrne (formerly Robertson), wife of Thomas K. Byrne, and Mary Ann Anderson (formerly Robertson), wife of James B. Anderson; and a great-grandson, Richard Taylor Jacob, son of John J. Jacob. No further family data.
It is indicated that Richard Taylor served as Captain and Commodore in the Navy in the State of Virginia, dates of commissions not stated, and while Captain of the Ship, "Tartar", and in command of a flotilla in Chesapeake Bay in May 1779, he was wounded during an engagement with the enemy's ships. He was retired from service on June 19, 1779 on account of said wound, the nature of which was not stated.
The veteran's residence at enlistment was not stated. In 1824 he lived in Louisville, Kentucky. He died August 30, 1825, place not stated.
Richard Taylor was pensioned under the Act of March 1, 1817. Pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency.

Reference is made to a daughter, Matilda Robertson. The names of the following grandchildren are given: Richard Taylor Robertson, who in 1845 was living in Davis [Daviess] County, Kentucky; Eliza M. Byrne (formerly Robertson), wife of Thomas K. Byrne; Catherine Ann Robertson and Mary Ann Anderson (formerly Robertson), wife of James B. Anderson. Richard Taylor Jacob, son of John J. Jacob, was a great grandson. Richard Taylor was in command of the Ship, "Tarter", in Virgina State Navy during the Revolutionary War.
Virginia Half-Pay pension due the above named grandchildren and great grandson of Richard Taylor was paid under the Act of July 5, 1832.
