William Taylor was born in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, date not given. The names of his parents not mentioned. In 1832 the veteran stated that he was about 70 years of age. The veteran's name also appears in the file as William Taylor Sr. There is no reference to wife and children.
At the time of his enlistment the veteran was a resident of Mecklenburg County, Virginia. In 1832 he was living in Mercer County, Kentucky. The date of his death is not indicated.
When he applied for pension he stated that he enlisted in July 1779 and served at various times until 1781, amounting to twenty-one months with the Virginia Troops under Captains Ship, Morrow and Graves, and Colonels Campbell and Burwell. He likewise stated that he was in the battles of Guilford and Eutaw Springs and that he "was present aiding and assisting in the capture of Lord Cornwallis." It is stated elsewhere in the file that he served as Private.
William Taylor was pensioned on Certificate 492, which was issued under the Act of June 7, 1832. The pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency.
