The mother of James Thomas is not shown in file. His father is Robert Thomas. The veteran was born in 1764 in Loudon County, Virginia. In 1839 he stated that he had recently moved from Kentucky to Missouri to be with his children, but did not mention their names. In 1834 Joseph Thomas, brother of James Thomas, stated that he was "in his 68th years of age." The name of the veteran's wife is not stated. His residence during service, Loudon County, Virginia. In 1789 or 1790 he moved to Fayette County, Kentucky. He lived for a while in the State of Indiana. In 1834 he was living in Clark County, Kentucky. In 1839 he was residing in Missouri. His date and place of death is not given.
When the veteran applied for pension, he stated that he enlisted in Mach 1781 and served thirteen months a private with the Virginia Troops under Captain Thomas Moore. He also stated that he was at the siege of Yorktown and at the surrender of Cornwallis.
James Thomas was pensioned on Certificate 26738, which was issued under the Act of June 7, 1832. The pension was paid at the Missouri Agency.
