On February 5, 1821, the veteran stated that his wife died the previous May, her name not mentioned. He stated that his children living with him were Nancy and Priscilla, twins, about 17 years of age, Margaret, about 11 years of age, and William, about 14 years of age. In 1832 the veteran referred to another son, not dependent upon him for support, his name not mentioned.
The veteran stated that he enlisted at the "Head of Elk (now called Elkton)", Maryland, but his residence then was not given. In 1821 and 1823 he resided in Bracken County, Kentucky. The date and place of his death not stated.
When the veteran applied for pension he stated that he enlisted on April 15, 1778, and served until June 1783 as Private under Captain Lindsay in Colonel Henry Lee's Legion. He stated that he was in the battles of Stony Point, Springfield, Georgetown, Gulford, Fort Motte, Fort Galphin. Siege of Ninety-Six, Eutaw Springs and Combahee Ferry.
John J. Thomas was pensioned on Certificate 7774, which was issued under the Act of March 18, 1818. Pension was paid at the Kentucky Agency.
