On this 15th day of June 1818 before the Court of Pendleton County and the State aforesaid appeared Bennett Williams, aged (blank), resident of Pendleton County and State of Kentucky who being just duly sworn according to law, doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to obtain the provision made by the Act of Congress, an act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War; that the said Bennett Williams was enlisted in the service of the United States in Prince William County, Virginia in the year to the best of his recollection of 1778, otherwise the year before Charlestown was taken for the time of eighteen months under Lt. Young at ? and marched to Alexandria under the command of Lt. Marks who commanded the company on a march to Petersburg. At that place was attached to a regiment commanded by Colonel Buford and Colonel Hawes of the Virginia line, on the continental establishment and marched from there to near Minks ? in South Carolina about the time that Charlestown was taken and then was encamped on waters called Black Waters, and after being about 14 months in the ? was made a prisoner near this line of North and South Carolina near a place called the Hanging Rock by Col. Lartton and was paroled and he states he delivered his parole to either Col. Hawes or Capt. Marks and that he never applied for any discharge, the time of service expiring soon after, he never heard of being discharged, and that he is in reduced circumstances and need the assistance of his country.

On this 8th day of February 1830 personally appeared in the open court
being a court of record for the district and county of Grant, B. Williams,
resident in said county, aged 66 years, who being first duly sworn according
to law and doth on his oath make the following declaration in order to claim
the provisions made by the acts of Congress on the 18th day of March 1818
and the 1st of May 1820, that he the said B. Williams enlisted for the term
of 18 months on the (blank) day of (bland) in the year (blank) in the State
of Virginia in the Company commanded by Captain Howard in the line of the
State of Virginia in the continental establishment, that he continued to
serve in the said corps until the (blank) day of (blank) 17880 when he was
discharged from the service in the ______ settlement in the State of South
Carolina, that he hereby relinquishes every claim whatsoever to a pension
except the present; that his name has been placed on the pension list, that
the number of his pension certificate is (blank) and that he never before
exhibited a schedule of his property because it was not until recently his
property has become so reduced, nor his infirmities so great as at present.
And in pursuance of the act of the 1st May 1820. I do solemnly swear that
I was a resident citizen of the Unites States on the 18th day of March 1818
and that I have not since that time by gift, sale or in any manner disposed
of my property or any part thereof with intent thereby so to diminish it
as to bring myself within the provisions of an act of Congress entitled an
act to provide for certain engaged in the land and naval service of the United
States in the Revolution War passed on the 18th day of March 1818, and that
I have not, nor has any person in trust for me any property or securities,
contracts or debts due to me, nor have I any income other than what is contained
in the schedule.
Bennet Williams was pensioned 1819. He was living in Grant County in 1820 and died there June 1, 1838.
