William Wilson was born November 7, 1765 in Cumberland County, Pennsylvania. He married Sarah Riddle on January 1, 1793 in Scott County, Kentucky. She was born February 22, 1769. The place of her birth and the names of her parents are not stated. She died February 24, 1852 in Jefferson County, Indiana. The following information is given concerning the children of William and Sarah Wilson: Polly Wilson, born January 9, 1794, married (blank) Woodfield and at one time lived in Georgetown, Floyd County, Indiana; Nancy Wilson, born November 12, 1795, married Joseph M. Wilson (no relationship shown) on March 5, 1822, place not indicated; Anna Wilson, born February 3, 1798, married (blank) Stewart; Sarah Wilson, born April 1, 1800; Marshal/Marshall Wilson, born October 21, 1802; William R. Wilson, born January 11, 1805; Eliza Wilson, born October 24, 1806, married (blank) Atkinson; Matilda Wilson, born August 6, 1809, married (blank) Armstrong; Jane Wilson, born February 13, 1812, married (blank) Woodfield.
The following children survived their mother: Eliza Atkinson, Nancy Wilson, Polly Woodfield, Matilda Armstrong, Jane Woodfield and Anna Stewart. Joseph M. Wilson was born on March 18, 1784, place not stated. The following children of Joseph M. Wilson and his wife, Nancy, are shown: Cyntheann Wilson, born January 13, 1823; Matilda Jane Wilson, born October 15, 1825; and Sarah Mariah Wilson, born January 13, 1827. In 1852 Joseph and Nancy Wilson were residing in Madison, Indiana. Gabriel Woodfield and William H. Brisbane were sons-in-law of the veteran and his wife. The names of their wives are not given.
At the time of his enlistment the veteran was a resident of Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, where he resided after the REvolutionary War until 1788 or 1789, when he moved to Scott County, Kentucky. He resided there until 1806, ten moved to Montgomery County, Ohio. In 1815 he moved to Jefferson County, Indiana, where he was residing in 1832. He died September 20, 1834 in Jefferson County, Indiana.
When the veteran applied for pension he stated that he enlisted about March 15, 1780 or 1781 and served until the last of September or first of October 1780 or 1781 under Captain James McMahan. It is stated elsewhere in the file that he served as Private with the Pennsylvania Troops.
William Wilson was pensioned on Certificate 2919, which was issued under the Act of June 7, 1832. The pension was paid at the Indiana Agency. Sarah Wilson, the veteran's widow, was pensioned on Certificate 6088. The pension was paid at the Madison, Indiana Agency.
