Friday, 4 May 1934Beattyville, May 2 - Roy Johnson, 18 years old, son of Cliff Johnson, was picked up beside the railroad track near Whiteash about 6:30 o'clock this morning.
The unconscious boy was brought home where physicians found the skull had a serious fracture and chances for recovery seemed slim. However, when a portion of shattered bone had been removed his condition seemed to improve.
Engineer Burns saw the boy beside the track with two men whom he called "suspicious looking characters." He stopped his train here and informed Sheriff Chas. Blount. But when the officer go to the scene the two men had disappeared.
It is said there was a dance in the Whiteash community last night which young Johnson said he was going to attend, but it was not learned this morning with whom he left the dance or who saw him last before the arrival of the sheriff.
He is still unconscious and his condition is very serious.

Thursday, 30 August 1951Finley Judd, 43, a former railroad section laborer, was accidently burned to death Saturday at his home near Scoville in Owsley county.
Details surrounding Judd's death are obscure but it was learned that it came through the agency of a kerosene lamp. Owsley County officers investigating the accident were quoted as saying that Judd was at home alone at the time and appeared to have been sitting at a table with a kerosene lamp in front of him. The conjecture is that he fell asleep and somehow pulled the lamp into his lap thereby catching his clothes on fire.
