Frankfort, KY, March 25 -- Mrs. James Updike of this city, died at the King's Daughters Hospital Saturday after an illness of several weeks.
She is survived by her husband and four children and by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Weidner, and five sisters, Mrs. Iciother Moore, Mrs. Fred Ingold, of Louisville, Mrs. Minnie Keller of Lexington, Mrs. Lawrence Brewer, Dayton, O., and Mrs. Luther Pence of Frankfort.
The funeral will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Southern Presbyterian Church and the burial will be in the Frankfort Cemetery.

Buford UPDYKE

Buford Updyke, 52, of Heidelberg, died Thursday, Sept. 22, after a short illness. He was a member of the Heidelberg Baptist Church, a retired railroad employee and school teacher.
Mr. Updyke, a well known citizen and member of a prominent Lee County family, was a devoted husband and father, an upright and valuable citizen, a loyal friend and neighbor, whose passing will be widely missed by his family and legion of friends. He had been a school teacher for many years and leaves to mourn his death many former students and a host of neighbors, friends and associates of the railroad which he served as an operator for 12 years. His funeral was attended by many of his former associates as well as an overflow crowd at the funeral home. The profuse floral remembrances attested to his popularity in his circle of activities.
Mr. Updyke was born in Frankfort, the son of James and Bertha Updyke, but had lived in Lee County since early boyhood.
Survivors are his wife Mrs. Hoyett Updyke; a son Lionel Joe Updyke, a student at the University of KY; four brothers, Edward, Virgil and Albert Updyke, all of Heidelberg, and James Updyke, Jr., Dayton, Ohio; his father, James Updyke, Sr., Heidelberg; a half brother, Edward G. Combs, Dayton; two sisters, Carolyn Rider, Denver, Colorado, and Mrs. Thelma Jane Burt, Denver.
Funeral services were conducted at 2:00 p.m. Sunday at the Newnam Funeral Home by the Rev. Walter Strong and the Rev. Bob Anderson. Burial was in the family cemetery at Heidelberg.
Casket bearers were Vernon Price, Edward Bert Combs, Lester Britton, Sedley Stewart, Eugene Brown and John Chambers.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Newnam Funeral Home.

James Robert UPDYKE

Beattyville -- James Updyke Sr., 88, died at 1:50 p.m. Thursday at the Estill County Hospital at Irvine after a long illness.
He was a retired lumber inspector.
Survivors are four sons, Edward, Albert and Virgil Updyke, Heidelberg, and James Updyke Jr., Dayton, Ohio; a stepson, Edward Guy Combs, Dayton, Ohio, and two daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Rider and Mrs. Thelma Jane Burl, Denver, Colo.
Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Newnam Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. James Smith and the Rev. John Werner. Burial will be in the Updyke Cemetery. The body is at the funeral home where friends may call after 4 p.m. today.

Middletown, Jan. 29 -- Mrs. Elizabeth Urton, 72, of 2206 Arlington av., wife of William Urton, died in the hospital at 7:20 a.m. today. She had been a patient there since Nov. 11, when she was hit by an auto.
Also surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Boyd Cox of Chicago and Mrs. Earl Christman of Middletown; three sons, William Bush, Campton, Ky.; Arch Bush, Middletown, and Reynolds Bush, Richmond, Va.
Friends may call at the Riggs funeral home after 7 p.m. Thursday.
