Will of James Knox Roberts


Beattyville, Ky
Sept. 16, 1937

I, J. K. ROBERTS, being of sound mind and memory and knowing the value and extent of my property, do hereby make and publish my last will and testament, hereby revoking All wills heretofore made by me.

1.  After the payment of my just debts And funeral expenses and the cost of a small monument to be placed at the head of my grave, and that of my beloved wife, who has gone before, I will And bequeath to the following named persons All of my property both real and personal and whereever Situate, to share and Share Alike.
To wit:

Mrs. E. L. MANCHESTER, Mrs. Cora ROBERTS, Annebell ROBERTS, Jamie H. ROBERTS, Junior, Rex ROBERTS, Ed. ROBERTS, T. H. JONES, Bass JONES, John J. JONES And Malcomb BRANDENBURG.

2.  When I die, I want my body taken to Maysville, Ky. and buried by the side of my wife, Lula B. ROBERTS.

3.  I hereby Appoint my friend C. BEACH my executor, without bond.

A statement of all the property I now own, is Attached to this will

I own the following property to wit:
Peoples Exchange BAnk Building and the house just north of it on Main Street in Beattyville.  Three Acres of land on the head of Holland branch, a tributary of Sturgeion Creek, now Occupied by Will ROSS on which owes $24.00 Rent.
One half of the mineral under 225 Acre of land lying between the head of Hollon Hollow And Old Landing Sinks, Mrs. Sam HURST own the Other half.
I own a small Oil royalty in Smyth land on the head of Millers Creek, Judge GORLEY's estate And Floyd BIRD ownd the seine interest in this royalty As I do.  see Mrs. SPENCER.
I own a royalty interest in a set of Law Books, known As Kentucky Opinion published by the Babbs Merril Co. At Indianapolis, Ind.
The 12 vollume of this set and I am to receive 43 1/3 cents on each Volume sold

I own 25 shares of the Capital Stock of Peoples Exchange Bank on which I have 9 100 percent of Assessment, which the Directer Agreed to refund.  The Bank holds my note for that Amount, when the refund is made, And the note Cancelled, no interest to be paid by me.  As I never received Any of the money, but the Bank got me money.

I, Elizabeth MATTOCKS, Clerk of the Lee County Court do hereby certify that the foregoing last Will And testament of J. K. ROBERTS, deceased, was on the 13th day of January, 1940, produced and filed in open Court and proven by the testimonies of J. K. ROBERTS (Written to be said last Will and testament of said testator;  whereupon the same with the foregoing and this my certificate have been duly recorded in my said Office in Will Book No. 1 Page 435.
Given under my hand this the 16th day of June, 1941
