Buck Creek School News by Fannie Caudell.

Friday, Jaunary 21, marked the close of a very sucessful school year.  Thursday night a large crowd enjoyed a commencement program.  The program was featured by a pageant entitled, The Judgement of Education.  The Salutatory address by Jim Steve McPHERSON, and an address by the Rev. Everett ROSS.  The topic of Rev. Mr. ROSS' address was, Study to Show Thy Self Approved.

June FLANERY and Jim Steve McPHERSON received Eighth grade diplomas.  Jim Steve also received the honary certificate for the year.  This certificate is given to the most valuable student of the year, as selected by the students and teachers.  Fourteen students received attendance certificates for perfect attendance during the school year.  Ellis BISHOP received an exta certificate for two years of perfect attendance.

The following students were placed on the honor rolls for making the highest grades of the year.  First grade, Earl WILLIAMS and Bernice BOWMAN;  second grade, Carroll TURNER;  third grade, Bill Tom BOWMAN and Fannie CAUDELL;  fourth grade, Maxwell TURNER and Roy Blaine WILLIAMS;  sixth grade, Geneva TURNER, C.J. DOOLEY, Ben CAUDELL and Ellis BISHOP; eighth grade, June FLANERY, Arvel SMITH, and Jim Steve McPHERSON.

The school year has been a very successful one.  It would be hard to try to enumerate all we have accomplished.  I might mention some of the outstanding events of the year.  The first and greatest of course was the county fair.  We were very proud of June FLANERY when she won the spelling bee for the second time.  June is the only champion in Owsley county to succeed herself.  Our basket ball team also did well.  We were especially proud of them when they defeated the Booneville B. team.

With the school year now behind us we look forward to the next.  We are very thankful for the cooperation and loyalty of the patrons of our school.  Without their coopeeratioin it would have been impossible to accomplish the many things we have this school year.  We close the year thankful for the many blessings of the year and face the future hopeful of another successful year.
