Former Resident Dies At Berea

Michael H. GABBARD, former resident of Owsley county, died at his home at Berea Tuesday night, June 2, following an illness of approximately two months.  His death was due to complication of old age.

Mr. GABBARD was 81 years of age at the time of his death.  He was born at Indian Creek in Owsley County where he married Rachel COMBS on July 24, 1884.  Later the couple moved to Berea where Mr. GABBARD became an employee of Berea College as a carpenter and which position he held for twenty-two years, or until his retirement on account of age.

Mr. GABBARD is survived by his widow, Rachel COMBS GABBARD, two sons, J.C. GABBARD of Berea, and E.B. GABBARD of Hamilton, Ohio.  One daughter, Mary Ellen MARSHALL, has passed on.  He is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.  Also several half brothers and sisters:  Will GABBARD of Harrison, Ind, Mrs. Jaily DUFF of Ricetown, Ky, Mrs. Delphia BISHOP of Oneida, Ky, Mrs. Lydia COMBS of Covington, Abel GABBARD and Bud GABBARD of Cow Creek, Ky.

Mrs. GABBARD was a life long member of the Baptist Church and of the Masonic lodge.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Baptist Church in Berea with Dr. RAINE and Dr. MORRISON officiating.

The Masonic order had charge of the burial rites.
