NOTES: John Smith Anderson came to what is now Todd County from Virginia in 1817. He and his family travelled over the Wilderness Road, passing through the Cumberland Gap. On this journey, their oldest daughter was twelve and their youngest was an infant. When Todd County was formed in 1820, John Smith Anderson was named as a magistrate. John Smith Anderson moved from Todd County, KY to Hopkins County, KY before he died there in 1841. John Smith Anderson usually was referred to as John S. Anderson. Some transcriptions of early Todd County records appear to confuse his middle initial, and the letter "L" is given instead of the letter "S."
