Ballard County,
Kentucky was formed in 1842 from Hickman & McCracken Counties, and
was part of the Jackson Purchase. The county was named for Bland
W. Ballard (1761-1853) who was an Indian fighter and scout. He
served in the War of 1812, and was a member of the Kentucky
Legislature.
