Corinth News: Mrs. Groves, a deserving widow…in serious need of assistance…bedridden with a number of helpless and afflicted children.

MARRIAGES
Double Wedding, at the home of U. M. Northcutt, the bride's father, near Oak Ridge Baptist church last Wednesday morning: William C. Ware, son of R. F. Ware, and Miss Corinne Northcutt and Robert M. Houston and Miss Minnie Nortcutt, by Rev. J. H. Limeric of the Christian Church.

Mt. Pleasant News: Marriage of Miss Daisy Petty, daughter of Rev. Elijah Petty, at his home, Sunday morning, Dec. 25th, to Mr. R. Dunn, by Rev. Petty.

COMMITMENT
Ann Elizabeth Brown, daughter of Hiram Brown, was taken to the asylum Tuesday.

DEATHS
Diphtheria Scourge near town; children have died by the dozens; on Tuesday night, Ben Ballenger lost another child from this disease, making three he has lost this week.

Marriage license issued Monday to Walter Martin, 17, & Elizabeth Philips, 17.

Mason News: Marriage of William Sleete and Miss Ida Furgeson, both of this place, at the home of the bride's parents Christmas week.

DEATHS
LOCAL INKLINGS: Ben Ballanger lost his forth child from Diphtheria last Tuesday evening. He has two children yet living, a boy about six years of age and a babe three weeks old.

Mt. Pleasant News: Died last Wednesday, January 4th, of diphtheria, Amanda, oldest daughter of Jeptha Dunn, aged 9 years, a child of rare promises; buried in the Williamstown Cemetery.

Corinth News: Death of Mrs. C. W. Hutcherson, formerly of Corinth, at her Tennessee home. Buried here Tuesday; graveside services by Rev. Russell Baird, of the Methodist Church.

BURIALS
Doulton News: Two of Ben Ballenger's children were buried at Mt. Carmel Cemetery last week, making three deaths in his family in eight days from diphtheria.

COURT
Nancy E. Green, widow of W. J. Green, renounced the provisions of her husband's will and asked the court for distributable share.

Mt. Zion News: Married Orval Slaughter to Miss Bolton, near Jonesville; visited his father, J. W. Slaughter, on Wednesday.

DEATHS
Death of Marion Wayland, influential citizen and wealthy farmer, of Dry Ridge; Thursday morning, the 12th instant; funeral at his home Friday, preached by Rev. G. W. Hill; burial in Williamstown Cemetery followed. Leaves wife, aged parents and three brothers; born February 12, 1853; married Miss Lucia Conrad, daughter of the late I. B. & Elizabeth Conrad, on October 8, 1887.

Death of Clovis, 22 month old little child of John & Isa Cammac, on Wednesday, the 11th, near Jonesville, who fell into the fire and was so severely burned as to cause its death after two days of intense suffering; funeral was preached Sunday by their pastor, William McMilliam, at the Macadonia Church grounds.

Marriage of Miss Sonder, of Lusby's Mills, to Elijah, oldest son of J. D. Cobb, popular tobacco dealer of Corinth, on Thursday; honeymooned in Cincinnati.

Marriage of Miss Marshall, daughter of John Marshall, of Scott County, to Mr. Hamilton on last Thursday; both well known here.

Marriage of R. L. Eads, of Richwood, to Miss Sallie Nelson, of Corinth, Thursday evening at her father's home, L. R. Nelson…couple gone to New Liberty, Owen County, where groom is employed.

Leniton News: Married on Thursday, January 12, at the bride's parent's home, Miss Elizabeth Phillips, 17, to Walter Martin, 17, by Rev. Limeric.

Doudton News: Marriage of Warnie Hutchinson & Miss Annie Wells recently at the bride's home.

RECEPTION
Newlywed reception held for Mr. & Mrs. J. Willard Haley (nee Collins) on the 16th instant at the Hotel Alms; Mrs. Alice Lindsey Collins, her mother of Kentucky; Mrs. Lindsey, her grandmother, now past 80. Married December, 1892.

DEATHS
Death of Alfred Bickers, a prosperous and honorable citizen, of Mason, Tuesday night (January 24,) of heart trouble; was subject to spells at night but died without struggle or evidence of pain according to his surviving wife; was a surveyor and worked for nearly every man in Grant County who honored and respected him as a true man…; funeral will take place today; was member of Centurion Lodge of Odd-Fellows.

Local Inklings: Death of Miss Hattie Holiday, of Columbia, at the Georgetown Female Seminary last Monday after a week's illness.

Corinth News: Death of two year old child of Zack McClain last week.

Death of Frank Bush, railroad man, by being crushed between two cars last Friday afternoon at Williamstown; former Williamstown resident; was raised by W. P. Gibson of Sherman and had lived several years with S. B. Arnold of Crittenden; remains removed to Walton for burial; had no relatives in this part of the country.

KILLED
Doudton News: Death of John Landrum, a tough of considerable notoriety, at Covington; killed by police.

IN MEMORIAM
In memoriam of Ada, daughter of E. J. & Fannie Mitts, who died last Friday evening of consumption, aged 29 years, 10 months and 5 days;…buried beside her sister, who died last April; survived by parents and family.

In memoriam of Maudie, daughter of Jeptha and Annie Dunn, (personal remarks and a poem signed by D. V. Morgan.)

Corinth News: Born to the wife of Pro. R. R. Hutcherson, a boy.

MARRIAGES
Married at the home of Rev. G. W. Hill, Williamstown, January 26, S. B. Merrill to Miss Alice Kemper; honeymooned in Cincinnati, will make their home at Florence, Boone County, Kentucky.

Corinth News: Marriage of Miss Lena Hampton, daughter of G. W. Hampton, prominent citizen of Harrison County, living near town, eloped Wednesday with Frank Groves of this vicinity, [married] at Vevey, Indiana; accompanied by Sam Tapp and Sid Westover.

Heekin News: Several of this place attended the wedding of Henry Jewett and Miss Flora Sheriff Thursday.

FUNERALS
Burial of Alfred Bickers last Thursday at White Chapel in this county; given funeral rites of the I. O. O. F. by 30 Odd-Fellows present; funeral cortège of 12 miles from Crossroads to Whites Chapel, "which is an old burying ground of the Bicker's family; 200 persons present; "There were few better men than Alfred Bickers, he was loved and respected by all." Born in Owen County March 15, 1831; died suddenly of heart disease at his home, January 24, 1893; Christian gentleman; children loved him; hundreds of tearful men and women of this county years before loved him "as one of the best and kindest of teachers." He was unostentatious, gentle in temperament, courteous, never offended.

Mt. Zion News: G. W. Hill preached the funeral of William Miller's child Saturday evening.

MEMORIAM
In Memoriam: Nancy Risen, wife of Joseph Risen, died at her home near Oak Ridge, Ky., November 14, 1892, aged 64 years; was born July 14, 1828, in Clark County, Kentucky; married January 25, 1852, to Joseph Risen; united with the Methodist Church in 1844; leaves five children.

In Memoriam: Ethelbert Loomis died December 31, 1892, aged 27 years; leaves wife; married Miss Kate Calender May 26, 1892; funeral preached by Rev. Wm. McMillan at Grassy Run Church on Sunday, January 1, 1893.

ELOPEMENT
Heekin News: Miss Annie Chipman, daughter of J. W. Chipman, eloped with Jord Oder, of this vicinity, Thursday; married at Aberdeen [Ohio, across the Ohio River from Maysville, Ky.]

DEATHS
Mt. Pleasant News: Died last Tuesday week, Jordon Faulkner, near Faulkner's Mill, aged 74 years; complained for a long time but quietly passed away; buried in family burying ground.

MONUMENT
H. C. Chinn, of Bourbon County, [administrator] has erected a monument at the grave of T. [Thomas] R. Kendall.

COURT
Mrs. Lucinda C. Wayland qualified as administrix of her deceased husband [Marion Wayland] with her brother, R. P. Conrad, surety.

PENSION
Uncle James Smith, aged 84 years, living near Mt. Zion has succeeded in getting a pension of $8.00 per month from the date of his application. He was in the Black Hawk War in 1832.

Cartersville News: Born to the wife of Jerry Ramey on the 10th, a girl; Dr. Blaine attending.

BIRTHDAYS

Mason News: "Uncle" Jessie Robinson was 99 years old on the 4th of February. He entertained about 59 at dinner that day. He has 145 children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and is enjoying good health.

Married, on the 8th instant, at the bride's parent's home J. S. Carter, Miss Artimisa Carter to C. W. Brown; wedding supper at James P. Brown's, father of the groom.

Mrs. Mattie Bickers was appointed administrix of her deceased husband, Alfred Bickers.

Wedding account given of Dr. G. W. Tucker and Miss Hattie Scott at her father's Jessamine County home [Dr. J. T. Scott] Tuesday by Rev. G. W. Hill; groom is the son of G. W. Tucker of Dry Ridge; a physician at Jonesville, Owen County where they will reside.

Married at the Methodist Church south parsonage, Williamstown, on February 22, by Rev. P. H. Hoffman - W. H. S. Taylor, of Ohio and Miss S. Florence Beach, of Grant County.

W. T. S. Blackburn, son of Hon. R. J. Blackburn, and cashier of the Dry Ridge Deposit Bank, and Miss Dannie Beach, daughter of Mrs. Mattie Beach of Mt. Zion, were married at the home of the bride yesterday, by Rev. G. W. Hill.

Marriage of R. B. Daugherty and Addie L. Bishop at bride's parent's home on Tuesday the 28th; honeymooned in Cincinnati. [name's of persons giving presents listed]

Corinth News: Wedding Wednesday of [Rev. Charles] Kendall and Miss [Susie White daughter of Evan White of near New Columbus], by Rev. J. R. Kendall of California, Kentucky; will make home at Mentor, Kentucky. Also, Miss Florence White, sister of the bride, was married to L. F. Sinclair, of Porter.

Will Foard/Ford and wife, [Miss Roberts] of Owenton, accompanied by Dr. J. F. Reece and Miss Mattie Roberts, composed a merry bridal party that passed through here on Friday.

Marriage of Miss Mary Elliott, daughter of J. W. Elliott, to George Griffith, of Kinkaid, at bride's parents last Thursday at Corinth.

Mt. Zion News: Married on the 22 instant, W. T. S. Blackburn to Miss Danna Beach, only daughter of Miss Mattie Beach, will live in Dry Ridge.

Mason News: Sick son of John McGlasson, Williamstown Constable, thought to be dying in Cincinnati.

DEATHS
Mrs. Marcus C. Lisle, wife of Congressman Lisle, of the 9th District, died at her Winchester home last Friday.

FUNERAL
Corinth News: Mrs. Dr. W. H. Daugherty attended the funeral of her brother-in-law, Mr. Cason at Williamstown last week.

COURT
Sarah J. Martin appointed guardian of Charles, John M., and Jeremiah Martin.

A. F. Sherriff appointed administrator of Gideon Hughes.

STRICTLY PERSONAL
Steve Beverly, of Stewartsville, recently eloped with the wife of S. T. Price, they were arrested in Aurora, Indiana for adultery. Mrs. Beverly put up bond for her husband, which was forfeited. Mrs. Price was fined $25.00 and 10 days in jail.

Harry Evans who was married in Jessamine County recently, has gone to housekeeping on the farm of John Layle below town.

Flingsville News: Married at the bride's home at this place on the 2nd instant; Miss Lou Mann to H. D. Mains, by Rev. Wyatt, of Morning View; wedding supper at grooms' father's at Peach Grove, Pendleton County; will live at Montgomery.

DEATHS
Death of Mrs. Isabella Jeffers on the 8th instant at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. T. Hinton, after 5 weeks of pneumonia' in her 75th year; member of the Christian Church since 1842; widow of Thomas Jeffers, who was well known in Grant County and a church elder; leaves 2 daughters and 2 sons, N. H. and A. T. Jeffers and Mrs. J. T. Hinton and Mrs. Vina Smith; funeral at the Christian Church; buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

Mt. Zion News: Uncle Johnathan Williams, aged 87 years; lately of Sherman, died very suddenly on the 10th instant; buried Monday, the 13th at Independence, Kentucky. [Another article states he survived all his children; survived by his second wife who he married last October; 4 grandchildren survive.

COURT
James Shinkle appointed administrator of B. P. Boner.

Uriah Bickers, guardian for Lottie Rodgers, settlement continued one month.

BIRTHDAYS
Sherman News: A family reunion was held at the home of Wm. Points last Saturday, March 18th, in honor of his 79th birthday.

MARRIAGES
Marriage of Robert Tully and Miss Addie Ashcraft last week at bride's parents home; names persons giving presents.

Keefer News: Two weddings Wednesday: Messrs. Tom Acre and Hade Alexander to Misses Nora and Agnes Mason.

ILL
Corinth News: B. F. Hutcherson summoned to the bedside of his sister-in-law, Miss Tony Ferrell, who is not expected to live.

DEATHS
Sudden death, by pneumonia, of wife of Judge James O'Hara of Covington, at Hot Springs, Arkansas, where she had gone for her health. Word was received last Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Alexander, wife of Representative Alexander, of Owen, she died at Frankfort Sunday and was buried in Owen County on Monday.

Death of Squire Abington, 31, of pneumonia last Saturday in New Orleans; he was a celebrated English sport with a reported income of $2000 a day.

FUNERAL
Funeral of Mrs. N. H. Witherspoon, niece of J. H. & W. F. Webb, in Winchester last Sunday, attended by them and J. H. 's daughter, Miss Laura, Miss Josie Webb and S. L. Webb.

MEMORIAM
In memory of Mrs. Isabella Jeffers, who died March 8, 1893, aged 74 years, 5 months; wife and mother; afflicted many years.

In Memoriam: Everett Bannister was born in Boone County, Kentucky February 28, 1860. He married Miss Birdie Elliston on December 5, 1883 in Grant County. She was the daughter of W. P. & Sallie Elliston, of Elliston, Grant County. He died March 12, 1893; he was a long suffer of consumption; funeral held at the Baptist Church in Union, Boone County, Kentucky; he was buried in Rice's Cemetery which over look's his childhood home. He was baptized the second Sunday in March, 1887 at the Ten Mile Baptist Church. He was a member of the Order of R. R. Telegraphers.

Dr. W. H. Daugherty, lives in Corinth; native of Harrison County, 58 years old. President of Corinth Bank.

James P. Webb, native of Tar-Heel state [N. C.]; has lived in Grant County since boyhood; sheriff from 1872 to 1874; county clerk from 1880 to 1888….

R. J. Blackburn is the leading Republican receiving votes by Courier readers; owns large tract of land near Sherman.

Hon. W. W. Dickerson's term expired March 4th; he will not be a candidate.

Honorable William Points would not accept the nomination if tendered; has twice served that position; 80 year old wealthy and influential farmer.

Hon. C. D. Reed is current county representative; 68 year old native of Bourbon County.

Hon. D. S. Clay born and raised in Grant County, 45 years old; has been a lawyer since 1884.

Dr. O. P. Hogan, 42 years old, youngest son of the late O. P. Hogan; born and raised in Williamstown. Breeder and trainer of horses; received a medical degree from New York University in 1872 but never engaged in that profession.

Doudton News: Married at the bride's residence at this place, Miss Flora Whaley to Tom Arnold, of Goforth.

DEATHS
Mrs. Margaret Lockhart died at her home near Mason last Saturday morning after a short illness, aged 75 years; she leaves her husband and two children and Mrs. R. W. Westover of Dallas, Texas. She was buried last Sunday in the cemetery at Mason. [Baptist Church Cemetery]

Flingsville News: Died at Garndersville on the 25th instant, Mrs. Dr. Ervin, of old age [72] and infirmity; consistent church member.

Corinth News: Death of Miss Tony Ferrell, daughter of J. E. Ferrell, of New Columbus, last Monday night at her home.

Mt. Zion News: Mrs. Lily Kendall, of Covington, and Mrs. Bettie Ellis, of Glencoe, are at the bedside of their father, W. P. McClure, who is not expected to live many hours.

DEATHS
Emily Billiter died at her home last Thursday of pneumonia.

Death of T. S. "Uncle Tom" Porter, ex-postmaster [24 years], of pneumonia, at his Williamstown home last Tuesday; he was ill three days. He was born in Boone County 65 years ago; he began teaching school at age 21; he moved to Grant County in 1859. He was a worker, no one ever saw him idle. He married in 1865 to Miss Elizabeth Merrill, daughter of Sinclair Merrill. They have seven children, all yet living. Brother, Omer Porter of Boone County and sister, Mrs. Mary E. Jones of Tennessee survive. Funeral today at his home. Resolution from teachers and pupils of Williamstown Graded Free School, where he was janitor. [buried in the Williamstown Cemetery]

MARRIAGE LICENSE
James T. Epperson, 20, and Janie Simpson, 19.

DEATH
News reached here last Thursday morning of the sudden death by paralysis of Mrs. Jennie Fritts, who lived in Williamstown most of her life; she died in Belleview, Kentucky. Her brother, A. F. Wilson and son, Robert Lucky, had the body removed to the Williamstown Cemetery.

POLITICS
Biographical sketch and picture of Alonzo Threlkeld, candidate for Grant County Representative. Born October 8, 1845 in Scott County; nearly 48 years old now; third child of seven born to Milton and Mary Ann Therekeld, also Scott natives. He married Miss Nancy Jones, of Scott County, in 1872. Eight of their ten children survive; four boys and four girls. He moved to Grant County in 1875. He was a farmer and a merchant. "During the dark days of the Civil War he cast his lot with the "Lost Cause" and served 4 years in the celebrated John Morgan cavalry."

Birth of a son to the wife of Dennis Sullivan last Friday.

MARRIAGES
Marriage of Miss Lutie Webb to J. H. Mendoza at the Webb Hotel yesterday afternoon. She is the daughter of hotel landlord. [4/27/1883 issue states they are housekeeping at Silas Wiggington's cottage on Cynthiana Street.]

Marriage near Mt. Zion, of F. M. Varner & Miss Eva Sturgeon Wednesday, April 12, 1983.

DEATHS
Mrs. Leni Wormley, of Memphis, Tennessee, who was called here by the death of her father, T. S. Porter, has returned home.

Corinth News: "…There is an urgent need for a cemetery at this place. We have four different burying places, all private and none of them cared for.

Death of William Tapp, Jr., Friday, at the home of his step-daughter in Scott County; one of the best and most skillful carpenters and contractors; buried Sunday in the Henry burying ground, Corinth.

MURDER
A Grant County Murder. Letter received by marshal of Williamstown from Chief of Police of Detroit, Michigan advising William Conners, about 50, is a fugitive from justice; right name said to be Joshua Marksbury [Marksberry], who about 23 years ago [1868] killed his father, Willis Marksbury [Marksberry] about seven miles from Williamstown, with a rifle over a dispute; was arrested but broke jail [with eight other prisoners while court was in session]. He fled to Canada and was later joined by his family. His wife's maiden name was Laura Tungate who he married in Kentucky. He had a sister, Mary Ada Marksbury [Marksberry], who married a Fenchman named Alex O'Lee. Joshua is the son of Millie [and Willis] Marksberry, who lives above town and a brother of T. J. and Hawkins Marksberry; many of the witnesses are dead and others are widely scattered: his return will probably not be called.

Announcement of J. J. Gouge, of Cordova, for County Representative; born in Grant County in the hills of Fork Lick, seven miles south of Williamstown on February 24, 1823, now in his 71st year. Father, James M. Gouge, native of VA; mother, Ella Jane Jewett, from Maryland. Jeff twice married; 1st to Sarah Clark in 1841, daughter of Judge Thomas and Barbara Clark, they had ten children. He married 2nd in 1863 to Mary C. Fitch, to whom seven children were born. He is a large land owner, farmer and stock trader.

Biographical sketch and picture of Corinth's Dr. W. H. Daugherty, born in Harrison County, March 20, 1835, the oldest of six children born to James and Mary F. Daugherty. His father was a mechanic and a farmer who died in 1867 from exposure in the Federal Army. His grandfather was Henry Daugherty, a native of the Emerald Isle" and served in the War of 1812. W. H. Moved to Grant Count when he was four years old, he was raised in what is now the Cordova District. His maternal grandfather was T. T. Thompson. He married Miss A. B. Mozee in 1858, no children. His most distinguished service to Grant County was in getting a part of Owen Count cut off and added to Grant. He educated orphan boys.

Mt. Zion News: Death of Uncle Billy McClure on Saturday, in his 88th year, he was an invalid for years. He divided his farm between his children years ago; buried Sunday at the Lebanon Church Cemetery.

FUNERAL
Funeral of Mary Ellen Hambrick, wife of W. T. Hambrick, of near Dry Ridge, was held at the Osborn Graveyard last Monday. She died of consumption; faithful wife and tender mother. Pallbearers were J. L. Clements, A. C. Webb, Marion Clements, Wilson Stanley, James P. Brown, and M. E. Gibson. [daughter of W. R. Osborn] Obituary in the May 11, edition.

INQUEST
Inquest of Lunacy held over Mrs. Dr. R. P. Thomas; her mind was found to be imbalanced and she was ordered to the Asylum at Lexington.

Biographical sketch and picture of O. P. Hogan, born in Grant Count June 13, 1851; the youngest son of Overton P. Hogan, a historical figure in the annals of Grant County. His brother, W. N. Hogan, was elected to the Legislature in 1883 but died before serving as did his father who was elected in August, 1885.

He married in 1887 to Miss Clara Willis, of Brooksville [Bracken County], daughter of the late Judge Willis, of Bracken County…of several children, only one, Willis C., a boy of 12 is living.

ABANDONED
A white baby is left at a Colored man's [Dan Brown] door. The infant was evidently brought to Williamstown from a distance; is red-headed and about 3 to 4 weeks old; later adopted out by Sheriff J. R. Lemon and wife who have no children.

Instant death of William Howe of Sherman by train on railroad crossing near John Conrad's last Tuesday morning. The body was conveyed to his family at Sherman.

Corinth News: Death of George Faulkner, prominent citizen of Harrison County, and son-in-law of G. W. Henry of this place, at his home near Stringtown last week; buried here Wednesday.

Grant County mob lynches Jim Collins, horse thief, at Sherman last Wed., within three hundred yards of the spot where he was born.

On June 18, 1841 William S. Utterback was assassinated by Lyman Crouch and Smith Maythe, they were hung by a mob of 350 on June 10 [probably June 20].

Obituary of Lou Franks; born near Mt. Zion, this county, Dec. 10 1850; daughter of the late Walter McBee; she married Marion Franks in 1872. They had four children, 2 boys and 2 girls each of which survive her. She joined the Mt. Zion Baptist church in 1864 or 1865 at the age of 13 or 14. She died very suddenly Tuesday, May 9th, 1893; funeral preached by the writer [Rev. G. W. Hill] at Mt. Zion, Thursday, May 11, 1893; buried at the Mt. Zion Cemetery. Her brother, John McBee, lived 4 or 5 miles from her home.

EDITOR'S NOTES
Grant County was organized into a county in 1820, just 73 years ago. Very few people in the county now can remember that time. Nearly the entire county was at [that] time covered with a virgin forest of the finest timber to be found on the continent. The timber which stood in the county at that early day would, if preserved until now, be worth more than all the land in the county. The walnut alone, much of which was wantonly destroyed, would in this day bring a fabulous sum of money.

Grant County is the hardest county in the district in which to secure a conviction for a crime of any kind.

In Memoriam, E. F. Everts, former Williamstown resident, died very suddenly of heart disease at his Covington home, Wed., June 21st, 1893, aged 57. Married August, 1888, to Miss Etta Ogden, his third wife. He joined the Williamstown Baptist Church in March, 1887. Funeral at home by Rev. G. W. She was buried at Elton on Monday.

Death of Miss Susan New 95, at her home near Cordova last Friday; was buried in Williamstown Cemetery Saturday. She was born in 1798, a consistent member of the Layton Chapel Methodist Church for more than 50 years. Funeral preached by Rev. P. H. Hoffman of Williamstown Methodist Church. She was the aunt of T. L. Clark and W. H. New.

He was about 60 years old; born and raised in this county; a farmer; married in 1860 to Miss Elizabeth Conrad, a sister to John, William, Adam, Clay and Lee Conrad; survived by his wife and 7 girls and 2 boys.

Thomas Rankin; her husband died in 1868, leaving 3 boys. Funeral was preached by Rev. G. W. Hill in the Methodist Church at Dry Ridge, July 17, 1893; buried beside her husband. Baby [Anna C. Lemon] left at the doorstep of colored man [Dan Brown] in Williamstown the first of May, who was adopted by J. R. Lemon and wife, died last week of cholera infantum; was buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

Death of Cebera Woodyard, 74, farmer, last Friday, at his home one mile east of Cherry Grove in Grant County; born one mile north of Williamstown, March 21, 1819. His parents were William and Rebecca W. Woodyard, of old Virginia stock. He was one of 10 children---3 boys and 7 girls, all dead except one sister in Illinois. He married on April 18, 1841 Elizabeth Coburn of this county; they lived together more than 50 years until death. They had five children, 3 girls and 1 boy [as printed]; 2 girls now dead; those living are Mrs. J. K. Page, Mrs. C. S. Simpson, and George Woodyard; buried in Williamstown Cemetery.

Death of "Aunt" Polly Poland, at the home of her brother-in-law, P. G. Webster, near Mt. Zion, after a short illness, last Sunday morning, August 27. She was born in Carter County, Tennessee, August 3, 1810, she was the daughter of Jacob and Sarah Poland and the eldest of 12 children-four daughters and eight sons-namely: Polly, Jessie, John, Elijah, Joseph, Reuben, Jacob, Elizabeth, Julian, Sarah, William and Isaac, 6 of whom survive, 4 sons and 2 daughters. When she was about 18, her father moved from Tennessee to Gallatin County, Kentucky. She united in great revival of 1842 with the Old Providence Baptist Church which later was New Oakland Church; after the deaths of her parents she lived with her brothers-in-law, Josiah Ellis of Gallatin County, and P. G. Webster; funeral at Mt. Zion Monday, August 28, by Rev. Hill.

Harrison on November 11, 1891; only one child born to them died at birth.

Death of Hon. B. N. [Benjamin Newton or "Uncle Bert"] Elliston, at his Grant Co. home, September 1, 1893, buried at Williamstown on Sunday, the 2nd instant; funeral at his home by Rev. Lafe Johnson. He was born in this county at the same farm where he died well into his 74th year. His father was James Elliston, 2nd Representative of Grant County; his mother was Nancy Jones [?]; he was the third of eight children born to his parents - 3 boys and 5 girls- five of whom survive. His paternal grandparents were Benjamin and Salie [Heilor] Elliston of Virginia, who came to Kentucky in 1824 [?]; this couple had 13 children of whom B. N. was the eldest [?], only Joe T. Elliston of Glencoe survives. His mother was left a widow when he was a lad. He married in 1883 to Miss Martha C. McGinnis, daughter of the late Hon. John T. McGinnis, who survives; no children born to them; served in the Civil War with the South in the 4th Tenn. and 4th KY
Cavalry.

Death of Jack [Jackson] Nicholson [son of Robert F. Nicholson and Sarah Landrum] by drowning in the lake at Sherman last Sunday; he was pursuing a fishing pole being pulled by a fish; his body was taken to the home of "Uncle" Bob Landrum on Doudton Pike, from where it was buried on Monday.

Death of Mrs. Leslie Gaugh, daughter of John F. Flege, at her home near Stewartsville last week of Typhoid Fever; funeral by Rev. G. W. Hill at the Baptist Church on Thursday of last week; buried in the [Williamstown] Cemetery at this place.

Mt. Zion News: Death of a stranger in this section, Benj. Christian, a stone mason, with pneumonia, on Saturday in Dr. Tomlin's office; his father resided in Milwaukee, Wis.; buried in the old graveyard at Mt. Zion. "Only six cents in money was found on his person."

Hill, when attacked by la grippe; buried in Franklin County; aged wife was confined to bed at his death; a son, John Hayden, returned with the remains.

SUICIDE
Suicide of Frank Williams, by hanging in his grandfather's barn [William Smith], last Friday; two notes on his body read, "My life has been a failure, so I take this means of ending it. F. W. Williams" and "My whole life has been a failure. F. W. Williams, Good bye." The jury said the cause was sickness and melancholy; he was 22, very bright young man, well educated, good habits, and gentlemanly demeanor; burial on Saturday from the home of William Smith.

The case of Ella Mendenhall vs. Mace Tungate has been reversed and the will of Mrs. Tungate will be set aside.

DEATHS
Mrs. Louisiana Collins, aunt of R. S. Sims, died last Sunday evening of pneumonia at her home near Mason.

Miss Hadie Ingram, daughter of Robert Ingram, died of consumption Christmas morning and was buried Tuesday.

Death of I. G. Robinson, principal of Williamstown Free Graded School, Tuesday, after illness of 4 days; born in Clark County, Kentucky May 28, 1856 the eldest of 3 children born to Butler and Emma Jackson Robinson. Their ancestors were from Virginia and of Scotch-Irish descent. He married Miss Mollie Haggard, of Clark County, on October 23, 1884; she survives; funeral conducted by Odd-fellows of Williamstown who conveyed body to Winchester and out in country to his boyhood home and buried yesterday; he was six foot two inches tall and 265 pounds. Suicide of Mrs. Dr. A. V. Menefee, living with her husband, at New Eagle Mills, Christmas night, by taking poison; youngest daughter of J. C. Franks, of Stewartsville; had been married about two years.

ASSASSINATION
Assassination of Martin Flinn, young farmer of Pendleton County, living near Falmouth last Saturday, by unknown parties; "his head smashing into a jelly."

COURT
Will of Sarah A. Tungate, probated by Mason Tungate, appealed to the Court of Appeals; she was a help-less, speech-less, bed-ridden paralytic 65 years old; refers to will of her husband, John Tungat, written in 1873 and executed May 14, 1887; he died in the spring of 1887; an unmarried son and daughter lived with her; a married daughter lived nearby; son lived in Texas; granddaughter, Ella Tungate Mendenhall, recently married, and a contestant to the will, live 35 miles away; court ruled Sarah mentally incompetent to write her will.
