Historical Society Picnic 2006

A note to the Society:

My Mother, Wanda Ashcraft Matherly, and I attended the Pendleton County Historical Society's annual picnic on August 19, 2006.  I must tell you it was the most wonderful experience we have had in a very long time.  We were a tad leery about the 200 mile trip but we were so rewarded!  After leaving the interstates we meandered though the beautiful hills and valleys of Pendleton County.  By the way, there were others that traveled a distance to attend.

It is truly beautiful!  On arriving at our destination we were greeted by the Nicest, Friendliest people!  There is just nothing like the kindness you are shown by the descendant's and historical preservers of our Pendleton County ancestors.

The meeting was very informative and we were fortunate to tour the McBride House, recently restored by Mr. Steve Jenkins.  This home is wonderful and is registered.  It is currently for sale and anyone wanting to purchase a Victorian "Mail Order" Home should inquire; the price is exceptionally reasonable!  Lots of history here!

Now, besides the most gracious hospitality; I just have to tell you, the food was the best I have had in years!  Gardens in Pendleton County are flourishing with the most delectable vegetables and they were in abundance on two long tables.  Just let your mind wander to the times you went to your Grandmother's for the most delicious meals, made with Mother Nature's ingredients and your Grandmother's pure love, that is what my Mother and I were privileged to!  We brought home the best tomatoes I have ever tasted!  That's right folks, these wonderful people brought their bounty to share with others!

I have always had the utmost respect for Pendleton County, but now, like the food, pure love!  You just have to experience this for yourself, it is truly what it is all about; people helping people, kindness, and genuine love.

To all the fantastic people we met, Thank you so much!  We appreciate you welcoming us with open arms.  My Mother was born in Pendleton County and to quote Dorothy, from The Wizard of OZ, "there is no place like home Toto" and this is especially true about Pendleton County!  If you ever want to take "A Trip to Bountiful" visit Pendleton County!

Thanks again for your wonderful hospitality,
God Bless You and God Bless America!
