William J. Kelly Dies
William J. Kelly of 340 Riverside Drive, [Manhattan] a retired
rubber importer, who was a member of the Rubber Control Commission
in the World War, died yesterday morning at the age of 69. His
widow, two sons, Dr. W.J. Kelly of Philadelphia and John Kelly
of Hudson, Mass. and a daughter Mrs. Carl Kavenaugh of Longmeadow,
Mass. survive.
Until he moved to this city [New York City] in 1903 Mr. Kelly
had lived in Boston. He was a charter member of the Boston Athletic
Association and of the New England Rubber Club, which developed
into the Rubber Association of America, of which he was a governor.
After many years as a partner in the firm of Poel & Kelly,
rubber merchants and importers, he retired in 1927. Among his
clubs were the Wykagyl Country, Hudson River Country, United
States Seniors Golf Association, and the New York Athletic Club.
