Photo of John Sanborn
(added 2/18/2008)

I've "rescued" an old photograph of John J. SANBORN of Washington D. C. No photographer or studio location indicated, however, the photograph appears to have been taken in the 1870's or 1880's with John likely in his 40' at the time. Based on limited research, I was able to locate the following information regarding John:

John Jay SANBORN, b. 6 Sept 1840 the son of John Jatau SANBORN (b. 1 Mar 1797 in Boston, MA) and Laura SWASEY (b.4 Dec 1809). The couple was married Aug. 1837.

Census records provide the following additional information regarding the family:

1860 census of Charleston, VA:
John J. SANBORN, age 63, Teacher, born MA
Laura SANBORN, age 53, born MA
John J. SANBORN, age 19, an Assistant Teacher, born VA

1870 census of Washington, DC:
John J. SANBORN, age 30, a Bank Clerk, born VA
Laura SANBORN, age 58, Keeps House, born NH

1880 census of Washington, DC: (living in a boarding house or apartment home belonging to Nancy W. CUSHING)
Laura D. SANBORN, age 65, born NH, parents born NH
John Jay SANBORN, age 40, born VA, at Home, parents born MA/NH

1900 census of Washington, DC:
John J. SANBORN, age 59, born Sept 1840, born VA, parents born MA/NH

I am hoping to locate someone from John's family so that this wonderful old photograph can be returned to its rightful place with family. If you are amember of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me.
