DEAN/DEANE Submitted by: Allan Dean
Email: allan@adean.com
Surnames: DEAN, DEANE, BATEMAN, FARMER, HAGGETT, ROGERS
Date: July 29, 2001

I have traced my direct line back to William DEANE who married Martha BATEMAN in 1670 at Billerica, Massachusetts. They resided in Woburn, MA. They had children, Martha, William, Samuel, John (b. Jun 25, 1677, in Woburn, MA), and Sarah. I am descended through John DEAN, who dropped the "e" and married Mary FARMER in Woburn. John m. Mary FARMER in 1703 and had children, William, John, Edward, Ebenezer (b. Jan. 28 1709), Thomas, Molly and Samuel. Ebenezer m. Mary HAGGETT ROGERS (wid. of Nathaniel ROGERS) in Dec 7, 1732 in Billerica, MA. They had children: Ebenezer ( b. Oct 7, 1733) , Sarah, and unknown daughter. Ebenezer (2) m. Patience BROOKINGS in May 26, 1763 in Georgetown, Sagadahoc, Maine. They had children: Joseph (b. Nov. 24, 1768), Sherebiah, Ebenezer (Revolutionary hero), Samuel, John, and Betty. I have Joseph's family bible and have maintained it to date. I know it is not much to go on. I am new to this and would welcome any help finding William Deane's parents. I have been to Woburn Library which has a terrific collection of books and vital records. I find that William had been in trouble with the law at least twice for being found drunk. The first time it was an 8 shilling fine. The second was 10 shillings or sit in the stocks. I don't know if he had the money or not. His property taxes were about 2 shillings per year. Savage points to the confusion of different name spellings...that is, he notes, "WILLIAM, Woburn, had Martha, b. 17 Aug. 1671; William, 5 July 1673; Samuel, 26 July 1675; John, 25 June 1677; Sarah, in 1687, by w. Martha. Great difficulty occurs in turning over rec. by frequent substitution of Dean, or Deane, or Daine, for Dane, and the reverse." http://www.yeoldewoburn.com/Savage.htm Please help me find the parents of William Deane. Thank you.

Please email as I will visit here infrequently.

PAWTUCKET MEMORIAL SCHOOL

Submitted By:
E-Mail: KADukes@aol.com
Date: July 21, 2001

I was inquiring about the tunnels that run under the Pawtucketville Memorial School. I attended that school about 30 years ago and "legend has it" that there were tunnels underneath and around the school. "Legend" also stated that the school was a hospital for tuberculosis patients. I was interested in what the hospital was called and if there is any information that be found for it?

Thank you.
