Abraham WELLS was born in 1744 (calculated) in Pennsylvania, parents unknown. He died in 1820 in Montgomery Twp, Gibson Co, IN (will); he first appeared in records of Chester Co PA 1769. By 1779 he had migrated to Virginia (based on birth data of children), and by 1788 to Nelson Co, KY (early tax lists). Three of his sons migrated to Indiana between 1807 and 1810. Abraham purchased land in Gibson Co in 1815 according to Vincennes Land Office District records, and was still alive there in 1819, as shown by records of the Harmony Store in Posey Co IN. His widow and several of his children appear on the 1820 census of Gibson Co IN.Abraham married (1) Frances GOFF Lancaster Co PA. (2) Hannah PHILLIPS in 1800 Kentucky

- Mary WELLS was born in 1772 in Spring Hill Twp., PA died 30 Mar 1839 in Shelby Co, KY. Married William COLLINS 1789 Nelson Co KY
- David WELLS was born about 1774. He died in 1826 in Posey County IN. He married Mary (MCCALLA/MCCULLEY?) about 1797
- Abraham WELLS was born in 1776 in PA, died before 1821 in Nelson Co KY, married Lydia HOAGLAND 1796 Nelson Co KY
- William M WELLS was born on 22 Nov 1779, died 1848 Edwards Co, IL, m Ruth MARTIN in 1804, Elizabeth HUNTER about 1821.
- John WELLS was born in 1783 in VIRGINIA, died 1851 in Edwards Co IL. M SARAH DAVIS 1804
- Joshua WELLS was born in 1786 in KY, died 1835 Edwards Co, IL m Hannah BELL 1808
- Sarah WELLS was born about 1798 m Edward HARRIS 1821 Hardin Co KY
Abraham and Hannah had the following children:
- Jane WELLS was born in 1801 in Shelby County KY, m Lyman PHILIPS 1821 IN, disappeared after 1840 census
- Elizabeth WELLS was born in 1818 in Indiana. She died 1893 in New Harmony Posey Co IN. married Abraham PENFOLD
