# 289 Benjamin Wells, NH, Grafton, Plymouth

Benjamin Wells, b. Abt. 1747 Chester, Rockingham, NH, son of Winthrop and Dorothy (Dolly) Healey (History of Plymouth, NH) death unknown, married first Lydia Wesson daughter of Ephraim Wesson and Mabel Whittelsey on 11 May 1768, born (unknown), died 28 Sep 1776, (History of Plymouth, NH and NH marriage records). History of Plymouth, NH and NH vital records indicate that both lived in Plymouth, NH at the time of their marriage. April 1783 in Plymouth, Benjamin Wells was enumerated on a state poll tax.

Benjamin was a soldier in the Revolution. He joined a regiment that was raised in northern NH and VT, Col Bedel in command. He was assigned under the command of Capt. Nehemiah Loverell's Company from Feb 9 to Mar 31, 1778. This regiment marched from Plymouth, NH and adjacent towns to reinforce the garrison at Ticonderoga, NY in 1777. Based on the regimental roster, Benjamin was a Corporal in 1777, (History of Plymouth, NH, Vol 1 and 2 by Ezra S. Stearn, A.M.

Children both to Benjamin Wells and Lydia Wesson, all were born in Plymouth, Grafton, NH;

   i. Lydia Wells b. 24 Dec 1768, (NH vital statistics) d. unknown married David Alls.
  ii. Nathan Wells b. 3 Jun 1771, d. Sep 1771, (NH vital statistics).
 iii. Lucy Wells b. 7 Jun 1772, (NH vital statistics) d. unknown, married Enoch George.

Benjamin Wells married secondly Susannah Clark of Rumney, NH on 6 Feb 1777, in Plymouth, Grafton, NH (NH Vital Statistics). They had at least one child;

  iv. Susannah Wells b. 29 Sep 1777, d. 3 Oct 1777 (listed in NH Vital Statistics and History of Plymouth, NH).
