For some you will see the same surname as these men in the Company E Indexes, Brothers? Cousins? Some of these men from different parts of Michigan chose to enter the hereafter from Tuscola County leaving loved ones behind. To the best of my ability you will see them mentioned here also

Forbes, Adney Lee Lapeer County Enlisted in Band on July 7th, 1861 at Monroe for 3 years, age 18. Mustered on August 22nd, 1861. Mustered out at Harrison's Landing,Virginia on August 8th, 1862. Died 5-29-1918. Buried in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar, Lot 5, Section O

Barrett, Joseph Tuscola County Enlisted on March 24th, 1862 at Almer for 3 years, age 23. Mustered on March 24th, 1862. Discharged at New York City on December 6th, 1862.
Cutler, David Tuscola County Enlisted on March 1st, 1862 at Tuscola for 3 years, age 43. Mustered on March 1st, 1862. Died at Fortress Monroe, Virginia on November 1st, 1862.
Faulkner, Riley Tuscola County Enlisted on March 22nd, 1862 at Tuscola for 3 years, age 39. discharged for disability at Washington, DC on August 20th, 1862.
Lewis, Chauncey Tuscola County Enlisted on February 7th, 1862 at Vassar for 3 years, age 23. Discharged for disability at Washington, DC on June 13th, 1862.
Lewis, Marshall Tuscola County Enlisted on February 7th, 1862 at Vassar, age 32. Mustered on February 7th, 1862.. Discharged for disability at Washington, DC on May 28th, 1862.
Mansfield, John A. Tuscola County Enlisted on March 7th, 1862 at Tuscola, age 31. Mustered on March 7th, 1862. Wounded in action at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 6th, 1864. Killed in action near Petersburg, Virginia on June 21st, 1864.

Rose, David B. Juniata, Tuscola County Enlisted as a Sergeant on September 11th, 1862 at Juniata for 3 years, age 33. Mustered on November 13th, 1862. Taken prisoner of war at Trevillian Station, Virginia while on Picket Duty on June 11th, 1864. Discharged at Detroit on August 12th, 1865.

Beach, John Monroe Age 29. Died February 7th, 1910. Buried in Mayville Cemetery, Tuscola County, Lot 602, Section O.
Company F
Caldwell. Thomas Tuscola County Enlisted on July 1st, 1861 at Detroit for 3 years, age 21. Promoted to sergeant on May 12th, 1862. Re-enlisted on December 18th, 1863 at Stevensburg, Virginia, Mustered on December 19th, 1863. Wounded in action at the Battle of the Wilderness on May 6th, 1864. Transferred to 76th Company, 2nd Batallion, Veterans Reserves Corps. Transferred back to regiment on Special Order 57 of the War Department, dated February 4th, 1865. Mustered out at Jeffersonville, Indiana on July 5th, 1865. A picture of Thomas Caldwell is available at the US Army Military History Institute at Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania. RG98S CWP147.85
Vaness {VannNest), William Tuscola County Enlisted on August 5th, 1861 at Fentonville, Genesee County for 3 years, age 26. Mustered on August 22nd, 1861. Re-enlisted at Stevensburg, Virginia on December 18th, 1863, Mustered on December 19th, 1863. Mustered out at Jeffersonville, Indiana on July 5th, 1865. Died in 1911 and is buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, Lot 150, Section 8, Tuscola County.
Willett, William Tuscola County Enlisted as a corporal on July 1st, 1861 at Detroit for 3 years, age 21. Mustered on August 22nd, 1861. Promoted to Sergeant on May 12th, 1862. Discharged for disability at Alexandria, Virginia on March 5th, 1863. Re-entered service in Company I, 1st Michigan Sharpshooters on May 16th, 1863 at Arbela, Tuscola County for 3 years, Mustered on June 16th, 1863. Promoted to 1st Sergeant during service. Taken prisoner of war on September 30th, 1864. Died of disease at the Confederate prisoner of war camp at Salisbury, North Carolina on January 10th, 1865 according to Michigan records. National Roll of Honor shows him dying on February 1st, 1865 of Pneumonia. Burial number 3399 at Salisbury North, Carolina National Cemetery. William Willet of Company F is buried in one of the mass burial trenches at Salisbury NC.
Company I
Phetteplace, Elhannan Tuscola County Enlisted at organisation as a 2nd Lieutenant on June 28th, 1861 for 3 years, age 38. Commissioned on June 28th, 1861. Mustered on August 22nd, 1861. Commissioned Captain on September 2nd, 1862. Mustered on November 1st, 1862. Discharged for disability from wounds received in action at the Battle of Antietam on September 17th, 1862. Died on October 20th, 1889

Company K

Brock, Francis Tuscola County Enlisted on March 22nd, 1862 at Tuscola for 3 years, age 18. Mustered on March 22nd, 1862. Promoted to corporal on May 1st, 1864. Wounded in action at the Battle of Reams Station, Virginia on August 24th, 1864. Discharged at Detroit on March 24th, 1865. Buried at Almer Cemetery, Tuscola County, Died on April 2nd, 1908.
Brown, Charles Tuscola County Enlisted on April 8th, 1862 at Detroit for 3 years, age 19. Mustered on April 16th, 1862. Died of disease at Tyler Court House, Virginia on June 2nd, 1862.
Faulkner, Amasa   Enlisted on March 22nd, 1862 at Tuscola for 3 years, age 39. Discharged for disability at Washington, DC on August 20th, 1862. Buried at Caro Cemetery, lot 32, section 2.

McMillen, Samuel Lexington, Sanilac County Enlisted in Company A on August 10th, 1861 at Port Huron for 3 years, age 33. mustered on August 22nd, 1861. Discharged for disability on July 24th, 1862 on accounts of wounds received in Action at the Battle of Fair Oaks, Virginia on May 31st, 1862. Died on June 21st, 1869 and buried in Unionville Cemetery in Tuscola County.
Morse, George W.   Company I. Belonged to W.T. Sherman Post 410 in Vassar. Died on February 20th, 1908. Buried in Riverside Cemetery Vassar, Tuscola County
Morse, Philo Lapeer County Enlisted in Company G on February 12th, 1862 at Vassar for 3 years, age 18. Mustered on February 12th, 1862. Discharged for disability on May 21st, 1862. Belonged to the VanFliet Post 368 in Reese, GAR. Died in 1920, buried at Gilford Cemetery, Tuscola County.
O' Neil, John   Enlisted in Company G on August 6th, 1861 at Lapeer for 3 years, age 22. Mustered on August 22nd, 1861. Died in hospital at Smoketown, Maryland on October 20th, 1862 from wounds received in the Battle of Antietam on September 17th, 1862. Government Headstone shows him dying on the 18th of October. Buried in Watertown Cemetery near Millington, Tuscola County.
Queen. William   Enlisted in company K, on January 6th, 1864 at Bronson for 3 years, age 26. Mustered January 7th, 1864. Discharged at Washington, DC on July 28th, 1865. Died on March 27th, 1918. Buried near the W.T. Sherman Post 410 GAR Statue in Riverside Cemetery, Vassar.
Tracy, John Hillsdale Enlisted in Company C on August 13th, 1861 at Jonesville for 3 years, age 29. Mustered on August 22nd, 1861. Wounded in Action at the Battle of Gettysburg on July 3rd, 1863. Promoted to Sergeant in November of 1863. Re-enlisted at Stevensburg, Virginia on December 16th, 1863. Mustered on December 19th, 1863. Commissioned 1st Lieutenant on October 2nd, 1863. Mustered on October 4th, 1863. Transferred to Company G on April 16th, 1864. Wounded in Action at the Battle of Totopotomoy Creek, Virginia on May 31st, 1864. Wounded in Action at the Battle of Meadow Run, Virginia on August 31st, 1864. Discharged for disability on September 6th, 1864. Died on June 26th, 1880, Buried at Pine Grove Cemetery near Millington, Tuscola County, Lot 125, section 3.
