HOLMES, Arthur David; physician; born, Chatham, Ont., July 19, 1864; son of James and Jane (Forster) Holmes; educated in public shcools; graduate Cahtam Collegiate Institute, 1885; M.D., C.M., McGill University, Montreal, Can., 1889; post graduate study at Vienna and London, 1904; married at Detroit, Feb. 3, 1898, Margaret MacMillian. Has engaged in pratice in Detorit, since 1889, specializing in treatment of diseases of children; assistant attending physician Children's Free Hospital, Detroit. Was quartermaster segeant Twenty-fourth Battalion, Kent Canadian Militia; now vice president Newsboys' Association, Detroit; director American Vapor Stove Co. Republican. Episcopalian. Member Wayne County and Michigan State Medical societies, American Medical Association, Detroit Academy of Medicine, Association of American Teachers of Diseased of Children. HOLMES, Frank B., builders' supplies; born, Detroit, Nove 13, 1862; son of Lafayette and Ann (Strong) Holmes; educated in Detroit public schools; married at Detroit, 1892, Mabel E. Wormer. Began active career in wholesale hardware business, 1879 with Standart Bros., Detroit, and later with Lockwood-Taylor Co., Cleveland, continuing until 1887; presidend and general manager Barnum Wire and Iron Works, 1887-89; president F.B. Holmes & Com., manufacturers and jobbers of fire bricks, cement and builders' supplies since 1889. Member National Builders' Supply Association, Detroit Builders' and Traders' Exchange, Detroit Board of Commerce. Republican. Episcopalian. Member Masonic order (32*), Mystic Shrine. HOLMES< William Lane, real estate and investments; born Huron Co., Ont. Can, July 13, 1859; son of Matthew and Martha (Lane) Holmes; educated in public schools of Birmingham, Mich.; married at St. Louis, Mich., Apr. 27, 1881, Emma L. Wheeler. Began active career in 1875 as clerk for J.M. Arnold, bookseller and stationer, Detroit, and later was with C.R. Mabley; was connected with Allen, Shelden & Co., whlesale dry goods, 1878-83, and from 1883 to 1889 was with D. Appleton & Co., publishers, as manager for the stat of Michigan; entered real estate business in 1889, in which has since continued; organized, with others, in 1896, the Detroit Telephone Company, of which was elected president, 1897; organized, with others, in 1898, the Michigan Portland Cement Co., of which he was president, and in 1899 organized, with oothers, the Iola Portland Cement Co. of Kansas, of which he was also elected president; organized in 1907 the Ohio Cement Co., of which he is now president; president of Detroit Tool Co., organized in 1905. Republican. Methodist; for thrree years president Detroit Methodist Episcopal Church and Sunday School Alliance. Club: Fellowcraft. Recreation: Literature. Office: Majestic Bldg. HOLT, Federick Holford, treasurer and manager F.A. Goodrich & Co., born, Manchester, Eng. Jan 18, 1867; son of James Rober and Mary (Holford) Holt; educated in Manchester grammar school and six months at Victoria University, Manchester; came to America March, 1884, and located in Detroit; married, Detroit, Nove 20, 1900, Lillian Silk. Began active career as messenger of the Michigan Savings Bank, becoming successively, bookkeeper and paying teller; severed connection with the bank,  1901, and has since been treasurer and manager F.A. Goodrich & Co., sales repesentative for Michigan, for Jones & Laughlin Steel Co., La belle Iron Works, Cherry Valley Iron Co., Globe Iron Co., Desronto  Iron Co., Ltd., Stonega Coke and Coal Co., Inland Steel Co., Also secretary and treasurer F.A. Goodrich Iron and Steel Co., St. Louis, Mo.; secretary  C.M. Hayes & Co., Detroit; director C.W. Warren & Co., jewelers. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Unitarian in church affilation. Clubs: Detroit, Fellowcraft, Detroit Boat, Detriot Golf. Recreation: Golf, advocate fo outdoor sports. Office: 810-812 Penobscot Bldg. Residence: 116 Boston Road.

HOOD, Arthur John; born, Ontario, Can., May 8, 1873; son of Andrew M. and Henrietta (Selby) Hood; educated in public and high schools, Ontario; married at Chicago, 1902, Olive B. Dixon. Came to Detroit, 1889; was with Michisan Central R.R. as special accountant,1892-97; dealer in bonds as A.J. Hood & Co., since 1897. Club: Detroit Golf. Recreation: Golf, fishing, tennis. HOOPER, Vernon J., physician; born, South Lyon, Mich. Dec. 27, 1870; son of Henry B. and Elizabeth (Sopp) Hooper; educated in public schools of Salem, Mich.; Michigan Agricultural College, two years, Fenton (Mich) Normal School, graduating, 1893; Detroit College of Midicine two years; Michigan College of Medicine and Surgery, graduatin, 1898; New York Post Graduate School, 1899; Army Medical  School, Washington, D.C., 1906; married at South Lyon, Mich., Dec.21, 1899, Estella Donovan. Began practice in Detroit, 1898; Ex-captian and assistant surgeon, U.S. Volunteers in Philippines; major and surgeon first Infantry, Michigan National Gaurd. Member Wayne County Medical lSociety, Michigan State Medical Society, Association of Military Surgeons of the United States. Member Masonic order, Knights of the Mordern Maccabees, Protected Home Circle. Recreation: Hunting. Office and Residence: 700 Dix Ave.

HOPKIN, Robert., artist; born in Glasgow, Scotland, Jan 3, 1832; son of Robert and Janet (Miller) Hopkin; came to Detroit with parents, 1843; educated in schools of Detroit; married at Detroit to Evelyn Godfrey. Early learned trade of house painting, but having a natural talent for drawing became engaged in scene painting, which he followed for thiry years; has fitted with scenery the stages of many of the leading theaters of the country, such as Hooley's., Haverly's the Grean, McVicher's and Columbia, Chicago; the old Whitney and the Detroit Opera House, Detroit; the Tabor Grand Opera House, Denver and the Colorado, Springs Opera House, Colorado Springs, Colo; has devoted his attention since 1871 to marine painting and has gained wide recognition as one of the leading artists in his special line; his paintings have been on exhibition in the salons of Detroit, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia and New York. Independent in politics. Presbyterian. Member Detroit Artists' Association, Western Art Association, St. Andrew's Society (life member). Was member Volunteer Fire Department of Detroit from its organization until its disbandment (foreman of Phoeniz Co. No. 5) Address: 247 First Av.
