HORNUNG, Jesse Burroughs;born, Genesee Co., Mich.; son of John T. and Julia E. (Parker) Hornung; educated in public schools and University of Michigan, graduating, degree of A.B. 1893; unmarried. Came to Detroit, 1893, and has since been indentfied with his father as dealer in lumber, grain and copperage  stock. Member Board of Commerce. Club: Detroit. Office: 36 Campau Bldg. HORNUNG, John Tyler; born, Erie Co., N.Y.; son of John M. and Elizabeth (Roades) Hornung; educated in public schools of New York; married, Julia E. Parker. Engaged for a number of years in manufacturing and marketing shingles; came to Detroit, 1893, and has since handled grain, lumber and cooperage stock. Member Board of Commerce and Board of Trade. Club: Detroit. Office: 36 Campau Bldg. Residence: 121 Ferry Av. E.

HORTON, Henry Wilber, Jr., secretary Buhl Sons Company; born Garrettsville, O., Aug. 4, 1855; son of Henry W. and Mary (Allen) Horton; educated in public schools of Garrettsville; married at Jefferson, O., 1879, Cora E. Bailey. Began active career as clerk in retail hardware store of Henry Talcott, Jefferson 1872; went to Painesville, O., and later to Sharon, Pa., where he filled position of paymaster for the Sharon Iron Co.; removed to Detroit, 1887, and became connected with Buhl Sons Company, wholesale hardward, and  has been secretary and director of the company since 1902. Member Protected Home Circle. Republican. Episcopalian. Club: Commercial. Recreations: Music, baseball and other outdoor diversions. Office: 103- 119 Woodbridge Av. Residence: 316 Hudson Av.

HOSMER, George (Stedman), jurist; born, Detroit, May 13, 1855; son of John and Lucy Jane (Buttrick) Hosmer; educated in Detroit schools; B.A. Literary Department, University of Michigan, 1875; studied law with Griffin & Dickinson, Detroit, and admitted to bar, 1878; married at Detroit, Oct. 30, 1889 Margaret S. Bagley (now deceased). Member of law firm of Griffin, Dickinson, Thurber & Hosmer, 1886-83, and of Dickinson, Thurber& Hosmer, 1883-88; judge circuit court, Third Judicial Circuit of Michigan, since Jan. 1, 1888. Democrat. Unitarian. Mason. Clubs: Detroit, Fellowcraft, Yondotega, Old Club, Detroit Boat. Office: County Bldg. Residence: 68 Stimson Place.

HOUCK, Jonas Byron, lawyer; born, Lexington, Mich., Apr. 23, 1869; son of Henry and Miriam (Cook) Houck; educated in district schools and at Flint (Mich.) Normal College; read law with the late Judge George H. Durand, of Flint, and was admitted to the bar, 1890; married, at Croswell, June 28, Gertrude Houghtalin. Worked as trimmer in saw mill and as timber inspector previous to reading law; began practice in Croswell, June 1, 1890, and after ten months moved to Detroit, where he has since practice. Served as private in Co. A. Michigan, National Fuard. Democrat. Member Wayne County Bar Association. American Lodge No. 441, I.O.O.F. (P.G.), Ingersol Encampment (P.C.P.), Captain Canton American Eagle No. 41, I.O.O.F. P.M.) and T.O. of T.I. President Odd Fellows Bowling League. Recreation: Bowling. Office: 306 Telegraph Bldg. HOUGH, Willis; born; Hadley, Mich., Feb. 17, 1864; son of Norman Fox and Elizabeth (Mathews) Hough; educated in public schools of Hadley, 1870-73, Flint, 1873, Fenton, 1873-82, graduation from Fenton High School, 1882; student University of Michigan, one year, 1882-83, and at Detroit Business University, summer of 1883; married at Detroit, Oct. 26, 1886, Carrie Mansfield. Began active career as entry clerk for Peter Hayden; saddlery hardware, 1883, was connected with the P. Hayden Saddlery  Hardward Co., as cashier and bookkeeper until the Detroit house was closed, 1890; assisted in organizing firm of Pierson & Hough, which began business Apr. 1, 1890, as wholesale jobbers and manufacturers of harness, horse collars, saddlery and kindred goods, incorporated in 1903, as Pierson & Hough Co., and has been secretary-treasurer of the company since time of its incorporation. Member Board of Commerce. Baptist. Club: Detroit Boat. Recreations: Rowing in summer, gymnasium in winter. Office: 101 Jefferson Av. Residence: 944 Cass Av.

HOUGHTEN, Henry; born, May 21, 1850; son of John and Margaret (Gothney) Houghten; educated in public school of Roseville, Mich.; married at Detroit, 1876, Amine Hetchler. Began in the building supply business, 1877; operates in his own name as wholesaler, retailer and manufacturer; handles building stone, lime, cement, sand, plaster and hair, sewer pipe, tile, fire brick, and clay, pressed, ornamental, paving and common brick; mantains four yards and two mills. Methodist. Office: 806 Hammond Bldg. Residence: 101 21st St.

HOUGHTON, Elijah Mark, physician; born, Antwerp, N.Y., Apr. 29, 1867; son of William and Harriet C. (Simons) Houghton; educated in public schools up to 1883; Ives Seminary, Antwerp, 1884-85; Potsdam State Normal School, 1886-89; University of Michigan, 1889-95; degree of Pharmaceutical Chemist, 1893; M.D. 1894; married at Antwerp, Apr. 23, 1893, Jennie Z. Hunt. Began practice at Ann Arbor, 1894; assistant  in pharmacology, University of Michigan, 1895; lecturer in experimental pharmacology Detroit Medical College, 1897-02; special lecturere Department of Medicine, University of Michigan, since 1902. Became connected with Parke, Davis & Co., Detroit, as pharmacologist and bacteriologist, 1895, and still continues with the company as junior director of research and biological laboratories; has been directing the production  diphtheria antitoxin since its discovery, 1894; engaged in manufacture of vaccine and other biological products, devoting much time to the direction and  publication of researches in biological medicine. Member Wayne County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society, American Medical Association, American Physiological Society, American Association of Bacteriologists, Society for the Study and Prevention of Tuberculosis, ect. Clubs: Detroit, Detroit Boat, Detroit Boat Clulb Yachtsman. Recreations: Horticulture and Aquatic Sports. Office: Parke, Davis & Co. Residence: 130 Longfellow Av.

HOUGHTON, Lew M., printing; born; Cass City, Mich., June 9, 1869; son of David M. and Margaret (Landon) Houghton; educated in public schools of Cass City; married, Lexington, Mich., 1891, Rose Henry. Began active career, 1886 in country newspaper office and continued for twelve years; removed to Detroit and engaged in general job printing, in which has since continued. Republican. HOUSTON, James, railway official; born, Baltimore, Md., Dec. 21, 1842; son of William and Mary Ann (Fraser) Houston; educated in public and high schools of Baltimore; married at Eau Claire, Nov. 25, 1875, Mary F. Stouch. Began active career as telegraph operator, continuing, 1861-64; in mercantile pursuits, 1864-71; telegraph operator and superintendent of telegraph Leavenworth, Lawrence & Galveston Railroad, 1871-74; chief clerk in general freight office, Missouri River, Fort Scott & Gulf Railroad, at Kansas City, 1874-78; superintendent Kansas City, Burlington & Santa Fe Railroad, 1878-81, superintendent and director Natchez, Red River & Texas Railroad, 1881-83; general superintendent Pontiac, Oxford & Port Austin Railroad, 1883-88; and later receiver same road; general superintendent Pontiac, Oxford & Northern Railroad, 1889-94; secretary and treasurer Michigan Passenger Association, 1895-1903; chairman, same, since 1903. Presbyterian. Office: 52-55 Campau Bldg. Residence: 310 Forest Av.

HOVEY, Horatio N., lumberman; born, Oxford, Oakland Co., Mich., Feb. 20, 1865; son of Horace and Hannah (Scribner) Hovey; educated in public schools of Oakland Co., Mich., and at Eastman Commerical College, Poughkeepsie, N.Y.; married at Muskegon, June 1, 1874, Miss Nellie Merrill. Began active career as clerk in grocery, at Muskegon, 1867; became clerk, Muskegon post office, 1868, and deputy postmaster, 1870; member hardware firm of Merrill & Hovey, Muskegon, 1875, and became member of firm of Hovey & McCracken, dealers in timber lands and logs, 1883, the firm buying mill and property belonging to McCracken, Hovey & Co., and lter buying another mill and operating two large saw mills at Muskegon until 1899; retired from manufacture of lumber and removed to Detroit, 1904; now devoting attention mainly to Southern and Western timber lands, of which is a large owner. Also president Muskegon Savings Bank, vice president sular Salt Co.; director Grand Rapids-Muskegon Power Co., Shaw-Walker Company, Grand Rapids  Desk Co. Was for number of years vice president Naional Lumberman's Bank, Muskegon, for three years president Muskegon Chamber of Commerce, and for ten years member and treasurer Muskegon  Board of Education. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Republican. Member Masonic order (32*), Knights Templar (Michigan Sovereign Consistory). Clubs: Deetroit, Fellowcraft and member of several hunting and fishing clubs. Recreations: Hunting and fishing. Office 518 Hammond Bldg. Residence: 825 Cass Av.
