Began active career in boot and shoe business, in Jew Jersey, continuing for fifteen years; came to Detroit, 1889, and became connected as bookkeeper in 1892, with the Detroit Cabinet Co., of which has been secretary and director since 1893. Knapp. Began active career as bookkeeper in jewelry house at Detroit; then became secretary to proprietor of Oakland House, St. Clair, Mich.; was with Baby & Dale, steamship agents, two years; entered service of Thomson Line of steamers, 1892, as clerk on boat and continued for eight years; has been traffic manager of the line since 1899. Began active career as clerk in hotel at Cleveland; traveled in different parts of the West as salesman for leaf tobacco house; removed to Detroit, 1883, and became connected with The Posselius Brothers Furniture manufacturing Co. as shipping clerk; was one of the incorporators of the company in 1890, and has been vice president since 1900. KNOWLSON, Albert T., wholesale incandescent gas light supplies; born, Milbrook, Ont., June 13, 1852; son of Matthew and Isabella (Thexton) Knowlson; educated in public schools and Irwin Private School, Millbrook; Toronto (Can.) Military School, graduating, May, 1869; married, Findlay, O., Aug. 14, 1895, Rose Elmes. Was in employ of postoffice department, Canada, 1869-70; employed on Pennsylvania oil properties, 1870-73; superintendent of oil properties, 1873-76; oil broker, 1876-90; has been identified with wholesale distribution of incandescent gas light supplies since 1890. Established in 1890 and president since its incorporation in 1906, of A.T. Knowlson Company, and Michigan manager Wesbach Company. member Detroit Board of Commerce. Went to Chicago, 1866 to engage in erection of flour mill, continuing until 1871; worked in steam shop until 1872, then became inspector of boilers for the Northwest with headquarters in Chicago for the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Co., has been located in Detroit as agent for Michigan, and northern portion of Ohio, same company, since 1893. Learned brewers trade in Germany; located in Chicago upon first arriving in the United States; removed to Detroit, 1884, and became connected with the Stroh Brewing Co. as brewmaster, continuing for six years; assisted in organizing The Koppitz-Melchers Brewing Co., 1890; acted as vice president and brewmaster until death of the president of the company, John A. Began as architect in Netherlands, 1887; was in employ of various architectural firms in Detroit until 1903, when he entered into partnership with A.W.
