LEVYN, William Mark; born, Alpena, Mich., Apr. 20, 1876; son of Jacob and Amelia (Roth) Levyn; educated in public schools of Alpena; married at Detroit, June 14, 1904, Harriet Solomon. Began active career as inspector, Boston Store, Chicago, 1892; next became identified with the Vitrified Emery Wheel Co., and later was proprietor of hardware store at Hillman, Mich.; out out his business and removed to Detroit, 1906, and has since been secretary and treasurer of the American Lubricator Co., manufacturers of brass specialties. LEWIS, Alexander; born, Sandwich, Ont., Can., Oct. 24, 1822; son of Thomas and Jeanette (Velaire) Lewis; educated in private school in Sandwich; married, June 10, 1850, Elizabeth J. Ingersoll. Came to Detroit at 15 years of age and was in employ of E.W. Cole & Co. for two years; was with drug firm of G. & J.G. Hill until 1841, then removed to Pontiac, where he remained two years; returned to Detroit and became connected with Grag & Lewis, his brother a member of the firm; associated with H.B. Bridge, 1845, under firm name of Bridge & Lewis, forwarding and commission business, continuing until 1862; engaged in flour and grain business, 1862-84, retiring to devote his attention to his property interests; director Detroit National Bank, Detroit Fire and Marine Insurance Co. President Board of Trade, 1862; police commissioner, 1865-75; mayor of Detroit, 1875-76; member Public Library Board, 1881-87. Democrat. Office: 7 Lewis Blk. Residence: 456 Jefferson Av.

LEWIS, Alex. I.; born, Detroit, Aug. 21, 1874; son of Alexander and Elizabeth (Ingersoll) Lewis; educated in Detroit public schools; Phillips Academy, Andover, Mass.; Yale University, degree of B.A., 1898. Began business career as secretary of the Bailey Coal Co., 1899; was next with Michigan Brass and Iron Works as treasurer; has been secretary and treasurer The Newland Hat Co. since 1904. LEWIS, Henry B., structural steel and iron; born, Detroit, Nov. 18, 1866; son of Alexander and Elizabeth J. (Ingersoll) Lewis; educated in public schools of Detroit and at Trinity College, Port Hope, Ont.; married at Detroit, 1900, Margie E. Croul. LEWIS, Lincoln G., transportation official; born, Louisville, Ky., Aug. 18, 1863; son of Sewell B. and Mattie Lewis; educated in Detroit public schools; married at Detroit, Sept. 8, 1885, Miss Mary Zoellner. Has been a resident of Detroit since 10 years of age; began active career, 1876, as cash boy for C.R. Mabley, clothier, and advanced through different departments until 1884, when he entered Detroit & Cleveland Navigation Co’s office as clerk; became chief clerk and ticket agent to general passenger agent, assistant general passenger agent, 1902, and has been general passenger and ticket agent since 1904. L’HOMMEDIEU, Richard, Henry, railway official; born, Cincinnati, Dec. 29, 1850; son of Stephen S. and Alma (Hammond) L’Hommedieu; educated by tutors and at private academies; married at Chicago, May 13, 1878, Angelina C. Marston. Began active career in locomotive machine shops of the Cincinnati, Hamilton & Dayton Ry., 1850; was clerk in division superintendent’s office Chicago, Burlington & Quincy R.R., 1872-73; trainmaster Michigan Central Ry., 1873-77, superintendent West Division, Chicago, 1879-90, assistant general superintendent of the road, 1890-96, general superintendent, 1896-1903, and general manager same road since July 13, 1903. LICHTIG, William; born, Hungary, Austria, Mar. 26, 1861; son of John and Fannie (Wohl) Lichtig; came to America, 1867; educated in public schools of Ohio; married at Cleveland, June 28, 1883, Bertha Meth. Learned trade of cigar maker in Cleveland, in shop of F.E. Kelsey, 1874-77; worked in various cities up to 1883, and then returned to Cleveland, where he started a cigar factor on his own account; became identified with the American Cigar Co., and since 1907 has been district manager for the company. Served as deputy internal revenue collector, Cleveland, 1894-98; superintendent of streets, Cleveland, under Mayor John H. Farley, 1899-1901. Democrat. Jewish religion. Member Knights of Pythias. LIGHTNER, Clarence A., lawyer; born, Binhamton, N.Y., Jan. 24, 1862; son of Rev. Milton C. Lightner; educated in public schools of Detroit and University of Michigan, graduating, degree of B.A., 1883; married, 1892, Frances B. McGraw. Studied law in office of Hon,. LINTK, Harry N., manufacturer; born, Columbus, Oh., Feb. 13, 1869; son of Elijah m. and Sarah (Nelson) Link; educated in public schools of Erie, Pa., and at University of Cincinnati (technical course); married, Erie, 1894, Nellie Caughey. Began active career with E.M. Link Machinery Co., Erie, 1889, continuing until 1903, when he came to Detroit as vice president and secretary of the Wray-Austin Machinery Co., machinery and engineers’ supplies, in which position he still continues; also secretary and manager United Manufacturing Co., manufacturers of Little Giant gasoline motors. LITTLE, Charles H., manufacturer; born, Detroit, Mar. 14, 1839; son of Thomas and Marie (Stock) Little; educated in public schools of Detroit (Barstow, principally) and course in Prof. W.D. Cochran’s Academy, Detroit; married at Mount Clemens, Mich., Feb. 22, 1870, Fannie J. WIse. Began active career in employ of Frederic B. Sibley, dealer in builders’ supplies, 1856; admitted to partnership under title of F.B. Sibley & Co., 1865, and succeeded to the business, 1887, when the name of the firm became C.H. Little; organized stock company under title of The C.H. Little Co., Jan. 1, 1898, of which he has been president since time of incorporation. Organized the Ray Chemical Co., and was its president until 1905, when he disposed of his interest; also organized the Union Talc Co., of New York. Republican. Mason (32o), Shriner. LIVINGSTON, William T.; born, Detroit, Apr. 2, 1858; son of Allan and Euphemia Livingston; educated in public schools of Detroit; married at Detroit, Aug. 19, 1885, Della G. Gilbert. Began active career as parcel boy for R.H. Fyfe & Co., 1871, and has been partner in the firm since 1886. Republican as to politics Methodist in religious views. LIVINGSTONE, William; born, Dundas, Ont., Jan. 21, 1844; academical education. Became connected with the shipping interest on the Great Lakes at beginning of his active career, 1864, and has been identified with it for more than forty years. President Dime Savings Bank, Lake Carriers’ Association. Republican; ex-chairman executive committee Republican State Central Committee. member Detroit Board of Commerce. LLOYD, Ernest Frederick, manufacturer; born, Detroit, Mich.., Aug. 21, 1866; son of Gordon William and Laura (White) Lloyd; attended Assumption College, Sandwich, Ont., 1876-82, and high school, Windsor, Ont., 1882-84; apprenticed as architectural student in father’s office, 1884-89; married at Fort Wayne, Ind., Dec. 12, 1895, Mabel Robertson. Entered gas business at Akron, O., 1889; in gas construction business at Fort Wayne, Ind., as secretary and treasurer Western Gas Construction Co., 1893; sold out, 1901 and in 1902 established the Lloyd Construction Co. in Detroit; purchased and reorganized the Adrian Gas Co., 1901, and has since operated same; assisted in organization of the Michigan Contracting Co., 1904.
