NEWBRO, Dupont Morse, pharmacist; born, Lansing, Mich., Mar. 28, 1865; son of Soloman D. and Orrisa D. (Maxwell) Newbro; educated in public and private schools of Lansing; married at Butte, Ont., Nov. 20, 1888, Sarah Matilda Hall. Started Newgro Drug Co., Butte, Feb. 1, 1890, first as a retail store, later as wholesale and retail; was for twelve years president and general manager of the company, selling out to company which still bears his name; principal owner and director Fosselman Drug Co., Walkerville Drug Co., and Montana Drug Co., all of Butte, selling out, November, 1902; was for ten years president Washoe Copper Co., whose properties were disposed of to the Amalgamated Copper Co. for $20,000,000. Has been president and general manager of The Herpicide Company, of Detroit, since Sept. 13, 1901, manufacturers of Newbro’s Herpicide. Was the first president of Montana State Pharmacy Examining Board; president Montana State Pharmaceutical Association, 1904-05. Mason, Knight Templar, Shriner. NEWCOMB, Cyrenius A., president The Newcomb-Endicott Co.; born, Cortland, N.Y., Nov. 10, 1837; son of Hezekiah and Nancy (Rounds) Newcomb; educated at Bridgewater Normal school; married at Hartford, Conn., Mary Haskell (now deceased); again, at Detroit, 1899, Miss Mary Sharp. Began in dry goods business at age of 18; came to Detroit from Taunton, Mass., 1868, and in the same year assisted in establishing The Newcomb-Endicott Co. Vice president Anderson Carriage Co. NEWCOMB, Cyrenius Adelbert, Jr., dry goods; born, Detroit, Jan. 14, 1871; son of Cyrenius and Mary E. (Haskell) Newcomb; educated in public schools (Irving and Cass), Detroit High School, graduating, June, 1889, and University of Michigan, degree of Bachelor of Letters, June, 1893; married at Detroit, Dec. 16, 1896, Brownie Jenness Kelly. Has been identified since the beginning of his business career, 1893, with the Newcomb-Endicott Co., founded, 1868, by his father, and incorporated,1890, and is director and secretary of the company. NEWMAN, Frank Lydston, physician; born, Norfold, Eng., 1859; son of William John and Sara Ann (Johnson) Newman; came to Canada, 1880, and to United States, 1885; educated at Victoria College, Island of Jersey, at Dieppe, France, and Detroit College of Medicine, M.D., 1886; married at Ontario, Can., 1890, Amy Seymour Galon. Professor materia medical Detroit College of Medicine, for past fifteen years. Member Wayne County Medical Society, American Medical Association. Clubs: Detroit, Detroit Country, Detroit Boat. NEWMAN, R. Adlington, physician, retired; born in Watlington, Norfolk Co., England; son of William John and Sara A. (Johnson) Newman; received academic education at Victoria College, St. Helier’s, Jersey; came to America, 1875; studied medicine in Chicago College of Physicians and Surgeons and at Detroit College of Medicine, graduating M.D. (gold medallist), 1889; married at Detroit, Apr. 15, 1891, Bessie M. Scotten. Served as house physician St. Luke’s Hospital; practiced in Detroit for about ten years; acted as administrator of the Daniel Scotten estate until its affairs were closed and has since devoted attention to management of private interests. Director National Bank of Commerce, Detroit Museum of Art (incorporator). Republican. Episcopalian. Member L’Alliance Francaise, Detroit Board of Commerce. NEWTON, Thomas E.; born, Lavonia, Mich., Mar. 15, 1866; son of Melvin and Mary (Newington) Newton; educated in Detroit public schools; married at Detroit, 1895, Miss Ida Callen. Resident of Detroit, since 1872; began in meat business, 1882; started on own account, 1887, the firm incorporating, 1901, as the Newton Beef Co., of which is president and treasurer. NICHOLOSON, Duncan; born, Rochester, N.Y., July 1, 1850; son of Alexander and Mary Ann (Roy) Nicholoson; educated in public schools of Rochester and Michigan; married at Windsor, Ont., 1873, Martha Katherine Kolfag. Began active career sailing on the lakes, 1865; became first officer, 1870, captain, 1871, and was master of various sailing vessels and steamboats, 1871-1903; has been superintendent Detroit, Belle Isle & Windsor Ferry Co. since 1903. Republican. Episcopalian. Member Masonic order, A.O.U.W., I.O.O.F. Recreations: Reading and home. Office: 2-6 Woodward Av., Detroit. Residence: Windsor, Can.

NICOL, Eugene L.; born, St. Clair, Mich., Dec. 28, 1867; son of Thomas J. and Sarah J. (House) Nicol; educated in public schools of St. Clair and at Detroit Business University; married at Detroit, June 23, 1894, Rose M. Walters. Began active career as messenger in Third national Bank, Detroit, continuing, 1887-90; then cashier and paymaster Iron Range & Huron Bay R.R., 1890-92; chief accountant Wayne County treasurer’s office, 1892-1904; in real estate and insurance business for self since 1904. member Detroit real Estate Board. NICOL, Frank V., vice president American Machine Manufacturing Co.; born, St. Thomas, Ont., Can., July 7, 1872; son of William and Julia (Ostrander) Nicol; educated in public schools of St. Thomas, 1879-87; Collegiate Institute, 1887-91, graduating, 1891, with 1st class certificate; St. Thomas Business College, 1891-92; married at St. Thomas, June 16, 1897, Clara Ferguson. Began business career as bookkeeper at St. Thomas, 1892, continuing until 1894; entered service of Michigan Central R.R., 1894, was appointed train master, 1896, and resigned 1900; entered real estate business in Detroit, 1900, and retired from real estate 1905, to become vice president of the American Machine Manufacturing Co., manufacturers of motor trucks, in which position he still continues. Republican. Member Christian Church. Recreations: Outdoor sports. Office: Champlain and Beaubien Sts. Residence: 236 Pingree Av.

NILES, Tracy Worden; born, Buffalo, N.Y., Mar. 9, 1851; son of Allen W. and Mahalla (Shepard) Niles; educated in public schools of Buffalo, married at Cleveland, 1874, Carrie L. Lathrop. Entered railway service as messenger for Buffalo & Erie Rd. (now part of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Ry.), 1866; passed through various positions as telegraph operator, train dispatcher, etc., and became superintendent Eastern Division Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Ry.; has been superintendent Detroit Division, same road, since Nov. 1, 1902. Office: Brush St. Depot. Residence: 52 Canfield Av.
