NOBLE, Albert D.; born, Grand Rapids, Mich., Dec. 4, 1860; son of Albert D. and Elizabeth (Pierce)Noble; educated in Grand Rapids public schools and business college; married, Maple Rapids, Mich., 1886, Miss Marie Hewitt. Came to Detroit, 1879, and entered employment of house with which he has since been connected, then, A.D. & F.L. Noble, but has been Noble & Co. since 1892. Universalist. Club: Detroit Athletic. NOBLE, Benjamin, manufacturer; born, St. Johns, N.B., Can., Mar. 27, 1859; son of Thomas H. and Cecelia (Dodds) Noble; educated in public schools of Toronto, Ont.; married at Point Hope, Can., 1887, Edith Sanders, who died June 30, 1907. Learned trade of foundryman in shop of John Ritchie & Sons, Toronto, continuing, 1872-79; then was with the Taylor Safe works, Toronto, for five years; traveled in Canada until he located in Detroit, 1885; became superintendent of the brass department of the Frontier Iron Works; associated with John G. Detz and established the Capitol Brass Works, 1899; also president Eby Manufacturing Co.; director the Motorcar Co. Republican. Presbyterian. Member Palestine Lodge, A.F. & A.M, I.O.O.F., Amaranths. NOBLE, Herbert W., banker; born, Detroit, Feb. 8, 1867; son of Garra B. and Eliza (Crosman) Noble; educated in Detroit public schools; married at Detroit, Apr. 22, 1891, Gertrude Delbridge. Began active career as clerk in the old Third National Bank; in 1894 organized banking firm of H.W. Noble & Co., and has since continued as head of the organization; manager of Detroit Clearing House Association since 1896. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Republican. NUTTEN, Wesley L., lawyer; born, Moscow, Mich., Apr. 6, 1869; son of John B. and Marie A. (Crane) Nutten; educated in Hillsdale (Mich.) College, threes years, 1889-91, and University of Michigan one year, 1891-92; married at Sturgis, Mich., Dec. 25, 1895, May Van Vleck. Studied law and was admitted to practice upon examination before Supreme Court of Michigan, June 15, 1895; has since practiced in Detroit; was associated for six years with Hon. John W. OAKES, Herbert King, lawyer; born, Milford, Me., Sept. 24, 1873; son of Benjamin Franklin and Charlotte K. (Valley) Oakes; educated in public schools of East Tawas, Mich., and Law Department, University of Michigan, LL.B., 1896; married at Saginaw, Oct. 7, 1903, Harriet College Waller. Removed with parents from Maine to East Tawas, Mich., 1877; began active career as a boy in lumber mills at East Tawas and on lumber shipping docks on Lake Huron; managed Tawas Bay Insurance Agency, East Tawas, for several years; has practiced law in Detroit since 1896, commencing in office of John C. Shaw; became member firm of Shaw, Waite, Cady & Oakes, 1901, and since 1902 has been member of its successor, Shaw, Warren, Cady & Oakes. OBETZ, Henry Lorenz, physician and surgeon; born, Columbus, O., July 8, 1851; son of Cyrus and Sophia (Silbert) Obetz; educated in public schools of Paris, Ill,. and at Homeopathic Hospital College, Cleveland, graduating, M.D.., 1874; married at Paris, Ill., 1881, California Rudy. Practiced in Paris, Ill., 1874-83; was elected to chair of surgery, Homeopathic College, University of Michigan, and served for twelve years and for eight years as dean of the college; has engaged in general practice in Detroit since 1895. member American Institute of Homeopathy. Engaged in lumber manufacturing as Cone & O’Brien, Chicago and Saginaw, 1859-68; located in Detroit, from Saginaw, 1870; was president People’s Savings Bank until its amalgamation with the State Savings Bank as People’s State Savings Bank, Jan. 1907. Now chairman Detroit Clearing House; director and chairman of Board of directors, The People’s State Bank; president Michigan Fire and Marine Insurance Co.; treasurer and director Standard Life and Accident Insurance Co., and Detroit City Gas Co., and director Peninsular Stove Co. Began active career at 10 years of age as office boy in office of James Caplis; through influence of Mr. Caplis was appointed messenger in State Senate, 1881; reentered employ of patron and continued until 1888; index clerk in office of register of deeds, 1888-90; became clerk in city assessor’s office, 1890, and subsequently assistant assessor; was assistant corporation counsel, 1896-1900.
