PAIGE, Frederick Osgood, general manager Hartford Life Insurance Co. of Hartford, Conn.; born, Cincinnati, Sept. 25, 1863; son of David Osgood and Mary (Wiggins) Paige; educated in public schools and business college; married at Detroit, 1890, Minnie Grant. Began active career as bookkeeper in boot and shoe house of Detroit, continuing for three years; was traveling salesman, paper and stationery, one year; established a paper business, 1884, under firm name of Beecher & Paige, one year later becoming Paige & Strachan, and three years later, Paige & Chope Co.; firm incorporated, 1894, as Paige & Chope Co., of which he has since been president. Entered life insurance business, 1894, as manager for the Mutual Life Insurance Co., New York; continued until Sept., 1906, when he acquired an interest in the Hartford Life Insurance Co., of which he has since been general manager for Michigan, Northern Ohio and Indiana. PAINE, De Forest, lawyer; born at Albion, Mich., Feb. 21, 1851; son of Asa Hammond and Jane (Hutchinson) Paine; educated in public schools of Saginaw and for the bar; married at Yonkers, N.Y., 1894, Sadie H. Burnstine. Has devoted attention since 1896, principally to promotion of industrial enterprises; organized the national Loan and Investment Co. of Detroit and was manager of the company for ten years; largely instrumental in consolidating the vehicle rubber tire business of the country and in consolidation of computing scale companies; associated with Sherman R. Miller Consolidated Gas Machine Co’s; identified with a number of corporations as officer and director. Democrat (independent). Episcopalian. Member Detroit Board of Commerce. Club: Country. PALMER, Ervin, lawyer; born, Exeter, N.Y., Oct. 10, 1832; son of Gilbert and Hannah (Herkimer) Palmer; took preparatory college course at Kalamazoo College; graduate of Michigan, degree of A.B., June 26, 1857, A.M., 1860; married at Detroit, Dec. 25, 1860, Emma L. Humphrey, who died, 1902. Has been in practice in Detroit since 1858; member of law firm of Palmer & Palmer. Elected circuit court commissioner, 1860; member School Board, City of Detroit, four years; chief supervisor of elections by appointment of U.S. court, nearly entire time the law was in force. PALMER, George Perry, lawyer; born, Detroit, July 13, 1868; son of Ervin and Emma (Humphrey) Palmer; graduate Cass School, 1880, Detroit High School, 1885; student at University of Minnesota, two years, 1888 and 1889; married at Detroit, Dec. 2, 1897, Adelaide Blodgett. Studied law and began practice in Detroit, 1893; member law firm of Palmer & Palmer, formerly assistant city attorney of Detroit and assistant corporation counsel. Republican. Congregationalist. PALMER, Thomas Witherell, ex- U.S. senator; born in Detroit, Jan. 25, 1830; studied in University of Michigan; married at Detroit, 1855, Lizzie Pitts Merrill. Made pedestrian tour in Spain and traveled in South America; afterward a merchant in Appleton, Wis.; in real estate business in Detroit, 1853-5; later lumber merchant and mill owner in Michigan. Member Michigan board of estimates, Detroit, 1873; state senator, 1878; defeated for nomination for congress, 1876; defeated for nomination for governor, 1880; U.S. senator, 1883-9. Republican. PALMS, Charles Louis; born, New Orleans, La., June 2, 1871; son of F.F. and Celimene (Pellerin) Palms; educated in private schools, Detroit; graduate Georgetown University, Washington, D.C., degree of Ph.B., 1889, later attending Harvard Law School; married at St. Louis, 1894, Miss Isabel de Mun Walsh. Completed school education, 1889, and traveled extensively in Europe; returned to Detroit, 1892, and became associated with his father, F.F. Palms, in management of estate of Francis Palms (grandfather), who dies, 1884; has been trustee and administrator of estate of his father (who died, 1905) and of his grandfather, since the death of father. Began business career in Chicago as a member of the firm of Pardridge & Leeming; came to Detroit, 1896, since which time has been senior member of firm of Pardridge & Blackwell, department store. PARKER, Aaron A.; born, Hamburg, N.Y., Mar. 1, 1844; son of Horace and Virginia (Whitaker) Parker; educated in district schools of New York; married at Detroit, Oct. 23, 1868, Mary Dennis. Followed oil prospecting and refining, in Pennsylvania fields, 1861-67; came to Detroit, Apr., 1867, and entered vessel business and forwarding, with uncle, the late Byron Whitaker; became identified with coke shipping in the 70’s and is treasurer Parker Brothers Co. PARKER, Byron Whitaker; born, Hamburgh, N.Y., Aug. 28, 1853; son of Horace and Virginia (Whitaker) Parker; educated in country district school and by contact with business affairs; married at Detroit, Nov. 1, 1884, Louise E. Campau. Came to Detroit, 1870; began active career by working on dock, next as porter in Standard Bros.’ hardware store, continuing until 1877; received first profits from handling Mackinaw straw braid; bought small interest in old sailing vessel, spring of 1877, and has for many years been extensively engaged as boat owner and in coal business; since 1893 has been president Parker Brothers, Ltd., wholesale and retail coal and coke, foundry supplies, etc. Also president Monarch Coal and Mineral Co., Interstate Sand Co.; general manager White Star Line Co.; director Weyanoke Coal Co. member Detroit Board of Commerce. PARKER, Dayton, physician and surgeon; born, Dundee, Mich., Jan. 17, 1846; son of Morgan and Rossetta C. (Brinningstool) Parker; educated in police schools, Medical department, University of Michigan, and Detroit medical college, M.D., 1876; married at Detroit, Dec. 30, 1890, Belle Gould. Served in Civil War as member Co. K, 6th Michigan Heavy Artillery Volunteers, 1863-65; began practice of medicine at Blissfield, 1873; has been in practice in Detroit since 1887. PARKER, Delos Leonard, physician; born, Marine City, Mich.; son of Leonard Brooks and Jane (Sparrow) Parker; educated in public schools of Marine City, Ann Arbor high School, graduating, 1876; Ph. B., University of Michigan, 1881; M.D., Medical Department, University of Michigan, 1883; post-graduate work in New York, 1890. Practiced in Marine City until 1890, and after a period of study in New York located permanently in Detroit. Was surgeon Michigan Naval Brigade several years, and passed assistant surgeon, U.S. Navy during Spanish-American War. Democrat. PARKER, Edward H.; born, Detroit, June 1, 1865; son of Thomas A. and Elizabeth J. (Maxwell) Parker; educated at Trinity College School, Port Hope, Ont., and Sheffield Scientific School, Yale University; married at Detroit, June 24, 1896, Eleanor C. Lyster. Was assistant engineer New York, New Haven & Hartford R.R. for two years after leaving college; was connected with the Detroit Match Co. and later as assistant manager of the Detroit branch of the Diamond match Co., for about eight years; secretary Detroit Sugar Co., 1900-05, and has been state agent United Surety Co. since 1905. Also president Detroit Range Boiler Co.; treasurer of the Parker Estate Co., Ltd. Member Board of Fire Commissioners, Detroit, 1896-1900. Republican. Episcopalian.
