Pastor Evangelical Lutheran churches, Patricksburg, Ind., 1883-94; Waynesburg, O., 1894-96; organized, 1896, First Evangelical Lutheran Church, Detroit, of which he is still pastor. PRIDGEON, John, Jr., vessel owner; born, Detroit, Aug. 1, 1852; son of John and Emma (Nicholson) Pridgeon; educated at Barstow public school, academy of Prof. Bacon, and Detroit Buisoinmess University; married at Detroit, Dec. 10, 1874, Cora, daughter of William M. Edgar, of Pittsburg, Pa. In early life was associated with his father in the transportation business, operating a line of steamers in connection with the C.&G. T.R.R., called the Chicago & Sarnia Line, and when his father withdrew, he became connected with Parker Bros., organizing and operating transportation companies; sold out and was one of the organizers of the White Star Line, of which he is now treasurer and director; owned Detroit & Windsor Ferry Co., with his father, for years, and sold to present owners. Was vice president of the Detroit River Savings Bank, afterwards the Marine Savings Bank, which was merged into the Dime Savings Bank, of which he is a director; director Detroit & Milwaukee R.R.; executor estate of John Pridgeon; was member Detroit park Board from 1883 until board was abolished; member City Council, Detroit, and acted as its president, 1885-87; mayor of Detroit, 1889-90 (the youngest mayor that has occupied that office in Detroit); appointed by Governor Jerome, police commissioner, in 1890,m and served until the police government was turned over to the city. PUNGS, William A.; born, Cologne, Germany, Apr. 25, 1850; son of Peter W. and Angeline (Quack) Pungs; came to America with parents, 1852, who located in Detroit; educated in public schools of Detroit; married at Detroit, 1875, Miss Addie Coon. Has been engaged in machinery and railway supply business since the beginning of his active career; was traveling salesman, carriage and wagon supplies, for twelve years; organized the Michigan Railway Supply Co., manufacturers of railway supplies, 1882, which was merged with the Chicago Ry. Equipment Co., 1899; founded the Anderson Carriage Co., 1895, and was its treasurer and general manager until 1898; president Central Savings Bank, 1898-1900; organized and founded, with others, the Pungs-Finch Auto and Gas Engine Company, successor to the Sintz Gas Engine Co. and the Michigan Yacht and Power Co. PURDIE, Charles F., superintendent Michigan Wire Cloth Co.; born, Waterloo, N.Y., 1844; son of John and Dorcas B(Williams) Purdie; educated in public schools of Buffalo, N.Y.; Highland Military Academy, Worcester, Mass.; Lawrence Scientific school, Mass.; U.S. Naval Academy, Annapolis, Md., graduating, 1868; married at Detroit, 1882, Miss Mary Bender. Served in engineers’ corps, U.S. Navy, during which time he visited all the leading ports of the world; resigned from naval service, 1875, to engage in private business; came to Detroit, 1876, and for a number of years was connected with the old Detroit Safe Co.; assisted in organizing the Michigan Wire Cloth Co., 1886, manufacturers of steel, iron, brass, copper, tinned and galvanized wire cloth , of which has since been superintendent. PUTNAM, Howard E.; born, Detroit, May 31, 1872; son of Thomas R. and Elizabeth (Van Vleit) Putnam; educated in public schools of Detroit; unmarried. Formerly assistant secretary Detroit Chamber of Commerce; became connected with the National Biscuit Co. and filled position of traveling auditor with headquarters in general office of the company at Chicago; returned to Detroit, 1905, and since Sept. 25, 106, has been president of Gies Gear Co., manufacturers of Gies reverse gear.
