Began active career as clerk in accounting department of the Michigan Central R.R., continuing until 21 years of age; then spent one year in employ of a local furniture company; organized the Wolverine Manufacturing Co., 1887, with a capital of $10,000, employing twelve men, and has been at head of company since its organization. Company now employs over 600 men, has a capital of $600,000, and has the largest factory if its kind in the world (manufactures furniture-parlor and library tables a specialty).
